Moraga, CA - Lehigh snapped its two-game losing streak on Thursday afternoon with a 12-10 victory over St. Mary's on the west coast.  Barrie Cominsky netted a hat trick on the afternoon to give her eight scores for the season.  The Mountain Hawks used a balanced scoring attack to defeat the Gaels and improve their record to 2-3 on the season, while St. Mary's falls to 1-4 in the early going.

Kellan Van Hoesen got the day started for Lehigh with a score off of an Ella Studdiford assist at the 28:51 mark of the opening half, and Meredith Carso followed that up with the first of her two goals on the day, to stake the Mountain Hawks to an early 2-0 lead.  St. Mary's then erupted for four consecutive goals, to take a 4-2 advantage and it remained that way until Cominsky found the back of the net for the first time in the game off of a nice feed from Emily Studdiford at the 19:59 mark and Lehigh was within one.

Carso connected for her second score of the half at the 16:34 mark to make it a 6-4 contest, and then the two teams exchanged two goals apiece before the first half buzzer.  Emily Studdiford and Sarah Starsoneck were the Mountain Hawks who scored in the waning minutes of the half, with Starsoneck finding the back of the net with just :58 seconds remaining, and at the half, the Gaels were ahead 8-6.

Lehigh's defense would tighten up in the second half and the offense would open up, as Ella Studdiford got in the scoring column early in the second half to pull the Mountain Hawks to within one at 8-7 with just 40 seconds gone.  She followed that up with another score, and when Cominsky scored for the second time at the 17:20 mark, Lehigh was down 10-9.  Emily Studdiford, Cominsky and Kellan Von Hoesen all connected for goals in the final 10:30 and the Mountain Hawks pulled away for the 12-10 road victory.

Ella Studdiford handed out two assists on the afternoon, as did her sister Emily.  Cominsky totaled a game-high five points (three goals, two assists) on the afternoon.  Kyle Begina saw 30 shots for the game and sent back 13 of them on her way to the victory in goal for Lehigh.  Carso scooped up a team high five groundballs, while Von Hoesen won eight face offs.

"Barrie Cominsky took control for us and had a fantastic game.  She really carried us through in the end," said head coach Jim Shreve.

Shreve was very happy with his team's effort.  "The girls played real hard today, they persisted and they played through the tough moments of the game."  Shreve continues, "This was a good game for us, with a lot of intensity.  It was a big win and huge step forward for this team."

Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday, March 17, when the Mountain Hawks travel to Philadelphia to take on St. Joe's.  That game is scheduled to begin at 4:30.
