Fran Troyan begins his ninth year as head coach of the Lehigh women’s softball team. As head coach, Troyan has an overall record of 237-159, a Patriot League record of 108-25, and has led Lehigh to seven regular season titles, two tournament titles, and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Last year Troyan led the Mountain Hawks to their fifth consecutive Patriot League Title with a 19-1 league record, and a 39-10 overall record. "We have a lot of experienced upperclassmen players who are familiar with the program returning this season, we only graduated two seniors last year, and a talented group of incoming freshman who should provide depth this coming season," explains Troyan.
A 1986 graduate of Allegheny College, Troyan earned his bachelor’s in International Studies and later received his law degree from The Dickinson School of Law in 1989. Troyan was an Academic All-America shortstop at Allegheny in 1985, a First-Team All-North Coast Atlantic Conference shortstop in 1985 and 1986, and competed internationally with Athletes in Action.
Troyan came to Lehigh initially as an assistant coach to his wife, Sue, in 1990 and became head coach in 1995. In his 12 seasons on South Mountain, Lehigh has won ten regular season Patriot League Championships and five Patriot League Tournament Championships. As head coach, he has produced fourteen Regional All-Americans, including three in 2003. He has coached three Verizon Academic All-Americans and 70 All-Patriot League selections. Last season eight players were selected to All-Patriot League teams. Coach Troyan was named as the Patriot League Coach of the Year in 2001. He also periodically provides legal advice to the Athletic Department.
Fran and Sue reside in Bethlehem, PA with their daughter Katie (9), and sons David (6) and Matthew (4)
