BOSTON – First-year Addison Moorman fired a three-hit shutout, the first of her college career, to lead Lehigh to a 3-0 victory over Boston University in their series finale Sunday at BU Softball Field. Sophomore Kelly Fricker, senior Sydney Parlett and sophomore Lizzie Kern drove in the Lehigh runs as the Mountain Hawks earned a doubleheader split Sunday, while picking up their first Patriot League win and snapping BU's 19-game winning streak.
The Terriers took Sunday's first game 4-0.
Sunday's split puts Lehigh at 17-16 overall and 1-5 in Patriot League play. Boston University is now 26-11 overall and 5-1 in league action.
Moorman picked up her seventh win of the season allowing just three singles and no walks, while striking out three.
Lehigh stranded five runners through the first two innings as Moorman matched zeroes with Danika Nell.
Sophomore Helen Woloshyn led off the fifth inning with a single to left, and then stole second. Fricker singled up the middle bringing Woloshyn home to give Lehigh a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice bunt by junior Peyton Sward moved Fricker to third base and then Parlett dropped down a squeeze bunt with Fricker diving in safely ahead of the tag.
The Mountain Hawks added another run in the seventh as Sward walked, moved to third on a sacrifice and then an error, and scored on a Kern sacrifice fly.
Boston University only advanced one runner to second base and Moorman was able to escape the fifth inning unscathed.
Lehigh mustered six hits against Nell and Haley Ganino, with Fricker and Woloshyn both recording two.
Sunday's first game saw BU's Kasey Ricard hold Lehigh to five hits over seven innings. The Mountain Hawks stranded two in the first in their best scoring opportunity of the early going.
BU scored two runs in the second on a Brooke Deppiesse sacrifice fly and a Kylie Doherty RBI single, and then two more in the fifth on a Livia Christopher RBI squeeze bunt and an Irys Kline RBI ground out.
Lehigh put runners at second and third with one out in the seventh but Ricard worked out of trouble with a strikeout and a comebacker.
Sward and first-year Lola Fasano both had two hits in the opener.
In the circle, sophomore Madison Finnerty allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings, with three walks and two strikeouts. First-year Maddie Masiko threw a scoreless sixth in relief.
Lehigh returns home for its next five games, beginning with a Wednesday date with Princeton. Game time is set for 4 p.m. from Leadership Park.
