Mountain Hawks Dominate With Seven Event Wins At Monmouth Season Opener

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J - Lehigh traveled to the Jersey Shore to compete at the Monmouth Season Opener for a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday.
The first day of the meet kicked off with hammer and discus throws as the only two events taking place. Grace Aggen won the discus event, throwing 45.85 meters. She cleared the field by over four meters. Avery Hogan and Olivia Dubrow also placed in the top 10. Hogan placed sixth with a 37.25-meter throw, and Dubrow threw 35.24 meters to slot in at eighth. Dubrow was Lehigh's top performer in the hammer throw, tossing the weight 36.75 meters.
Aggen continued her success on day two, winning her second event of the meet. She threw the shot put 14.05 meters, taking the win in her penultimate throw.Â
Grace Nation won both horizontal jumping events. The senior jumped 5.45 meters to win the long jump, and 11.67 meters to champion the triple jump. Charlotte DeForest placed in the top 10 of both events. The first-year jumped 10.46 to land 10th in the triple jump, and placed eighth in the triple jump with a 5.05-meter leap. Laura Reigle won the pole vault, clearing the 3.81 meter bar.
Lehigh dominated the 800 meter race, securing six of the top eight places. Lauryn Heskin won the event by over five seconds, crossing the line in 2:12.39. The Mountain Hawks swept the podium, with Amber Barrios and Hope Trimmer being the next two finishers. Berrios ran 2:17.75 as the runner-up, and Trimmer ran 2:18.10 to place third. Kayleigh Jamieson placed sixth in her outdoor debut, as the first-year ran 2:19.25. Lucy Afanasewicz ran 2:20.59 to finish seventh, and Jaqueline Gifford finished in a personal best 2:21.88 to place eighth.Â
Mountain Hawks owned four of the top five 200 meter finishers. Lehigh swept the podium, with all three runners setting new personal bests. Jade Sanders paced the field running 24.92. This race moved the sophomore up to fourth on Lehigh's all-time performance list. Gianna Mangili was the runner-up. The senior ran 25.17, making her the seventh fastest 200 meter runner in Lehigh history. Harper Glennon rounded out the podium in third. The first-year ran 25.20, putting her at ninth on Lehigh's all-time list. Kasey White finished fifth, running 25.48. She also placed third in the 400 meter dash, running 59.15 as Lehigh's top runner.
The Mountain Hawks had a handful of top five finishes in the distance events. Senior Dakota Russell was the runner-up in the 3000 meter steeplechase. She ran 11:29.61 in the first outdoor race of her career. Elizabeth Ehrhardt and Mallory Sherrer rounded out the top five finishers. Elizabeth Ehrhardt and Mallory Sherrer rounded out the top five finishers, both achieving personal bests. Ehrhardt ran 11:55.40 to place fourth, and Sherrer placed fifth in 12:00.51. Grace Hughes was the runner-up in the 1500 meter run, running a personal record time of 4:28.35. This race makes the junior the sixth fastest 1500 meter runner in Lehigh history. Zoe Louis placed ninth in the event, running 4:47.46. Grace Trimmer placed fifth in her first 5k on the track. The first-year ran 17:52.93.
Lehigh had three sophomores earn top five finishers between the two hurdle events. Lanae Carrington won over the 400 meter distance, crossing the line at 1:03.15. Adelaide Videon-Perino crossed at 1:05.89, finishing fifth. Anna Troutman was Lehigh's sole competitor in the 100 meter hurdles. She placed fourth, running a personal best 15.45-second race.Â
Both relay events resulted in second place finishes for Lehigh. The team of Glennon, Mangili, Maggie Scalzo, and Faith Schiffer ran 48.31 for the 4x100 meter relay. In the 4x400 meter relay, Carrington, Sanders, Videon-Perino, and Jamieson collectively ran 3:54.56.Â
Lehigh heads back to the Garden State next week for the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, April 4.
