Mountain Hawks Pick up Up Four Event Wins at Fastrack National Invite

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- Lehigh's women's track and field team competed at the Fastrack National Invite on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
The Mountain Hawks had athletes in each of the four invitational events, earning top ten placements in each of them. The two track invitational track events each spanned 60 meters. First-year Maggie Scalzo had a personal best race at this distance over hurdles. She ran 8.97, earning her fourth place. Lehigh had two top five finishers in the 60 meter dash with senior Gianna Mangili placing third and first-year Harper Glennon in fifth. Mangili topped the list for Lehigh, running 7.71 to Glennon's 7.77. Topping the list for all competitors in the high jump was sophomore Anna Troutman. She cleared the 1.65 meter bar to win the event. Senior Melanie LaCorte also took fourth in that event, jumping 1.55 meters. The final invitational event was the long jump, where senior Grace Nation was Lehigh's top placing athlete, leaping 5.07 meters.
Success continued in the open events, starting with a win in the 5000 meter run by Devon Sutton. The junior finished in an indoor personal best time of 17:44.29, resulting in her first collegiate win. Behind Sutton were sophomores Elizabeth Ehrhardt and Brenna Dahlgren. Ehrhardt ran a personal best time of 18:30.39 to place fourth, and Dahlgren finished sixth at 18:40.85.
High placing personal best races became a theme in the distance events. Senior Lucy Afanasewicz ran a personal best time of 2:14.19 to win her heat of the 800 meter run, placing her fourth overall. First-year Zoe Louis placed 11th in her collegiate debut in the event, running 2:17.14. In the mile, Grace Hughes not only lowered her personal record by five seconds, but also moved up to fourth place on Lehigh's all-time indoor performance list for the event. The junior crossed the line at 4:52.36, placing fifth overall. First-year Grace Trimmer placed highly as well in the 3000 meter run. She finished 12th, running 10:27.36.
Lehigh runners earned three indoor personal bests across their four top six finishes in the 400 meter run. Sophomore Jade Sanders led the way, winning the event in a personal record 55.64. Seniors Grace Kennedy and Abby Klebe were next, finishing in third and fourth, respectively. Kennedy ran 56.34, and Klebe's run of 56.95 was a new indoor personal best, moving her to fourth on the indoor performance list. Sophomore Lanae Carrington placed sixth overall, she won her heat in a personal best time of 58.46.
The duo of Sanders and Kennedy carried on in the 200 meter dash, taking up two of the top three spots. Kennedy got the edge this time, running 25.49 to place second. Sanders came third with a 25.51-second race, winning her heat in the process. They were joined at the top of the field by Glennon, who won her head in 25.79 to place seventh overall.
In the pole vault, Lehigh seniors owned four of the top ten spots for the event. Laura Reigle and Corinn Brewer both cleared the 3.65 meter bar, with Reigle getting the edge in attempts to place second to Brewer's third. Lena Perlmutter and Sarah Goode both jumped 3.20 meters, with Perlmutter landing in eighth and Goode in ninth based on attempts.
Graduate student Casey Talamini-Kelemen earned the fifth place spot in the triple jump, clearing 11.26 meters. Placing right behind in sixth was Nation, who jumped 11.19 meters.
The meet concluded with the relays, where Lehigh squads took three podium placements in two events. The Mountain Hawks first won the distance medley relay, where Hughes, Louis, Mallory Scherrer, and Lily Schindler ran 12:04.56. Lehigh won the third heat of the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Carrington, Scalzo, Brewer and Adelaide Videon-Perino snuck under the four-minute mark to finish in 3:59.94, earning second place. Lehigh also placed third, running 4:03.14.
Lehigh's throwers compete tomorrow at the Frank Colden Invitational, while the entire team is back in action next weekend at the Widener Indoor Classic.
