Strong Offensive Effort Lifts Lehigh Over La Salle

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Mountain Hawks had 10 different goal-scorers as they defeated La Salle 16-6, on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
"Today was a great day to be a Mountain Hawk," exclaimed head coach Steph Lazo. "We had numerous contributors on both the offensive and defensive ends, and it was a total team win!"

Kacie Wines led Lehigh with seven points from three goals and four assists. Three Mountain Hawks scored their first career goals: Bella Brogan, Anna Rivetti and Julia Miller.Â

Leading into the game, Nina DeNicola led the NCAA with a perfect shot percentage (12-for-12). DeNicola contributed a hat trick today, but missed her first shot of the season as she went 3-for-4.

Lehigh started off the game on a 3-0 run, as DeNicola, Gracie Shoup and Molly Snow tallied scores. La Salle broke up the run, before goals from Snow and Wines gave the Mountain Hawks a 5-1 lead at the end of the first period.

The Mountain Hawks dominated the second quarter, taking a 9-1 lead into halftime. Wines contributed two goals, while DeNicola and Grace Martel each added one.Â

La Salle opened the second half with its second goal. Grace Martel responded with a free position goal. The Explorers' Emi Waldron capitalized on a player-up opportunity, as Lehigh led 10-3.

Lehigh closed out the third quarter with another three-goal run, taking a 13-3 lead. The run featured another score from DeNicola, and goals from Brogan and Logan Barry.Â

Waldron put back-to-back goals on the board for La Salle to open the fourth quarter. The Mountain Hawks answered, as Rivetti struck next off an assist from Barry.Â

A two minute, unreleasable penalty on the Mountain Hawks, preceded La Salle's sixth and final goal at 4:42 left in the game. Karina Van der Walt responded with a player-down goal. Miller's score with 20 seconds remaining, capped off the 16-6 victory for Lehigh.

Both Lehigh goalkeepers recorded minutes, with Micaela Jennings starting and recording seven saves in 35:23. Jane Hughes made nine saves and recorded five ground balls in the final 24:37.Â
