Lazo Claims Her First Win In 12-7 Victory Over Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Head coach Steph Lazo earned her first win as the Mountain Hawks defeated Iona 12-7, on a rainy Friday afternoon on the road.
"I am so proud of our team today! The weather conditions were not ideal but we found a way to end on top with no excuses," said Lazo. "It was a complete team win with eight people contributing on the offensive end, and multiple players coming in defensively and making a difference. It's a great day to be a Mountain Hawk!"
Molly Snow had seven points on the afternoon, scoring one goal and dishing out six assists. Snow also led Lehigh in caused turnovers with three, while adding two draw controls. Shannon Nolan led Lehigh with three goals, with Kacie Wines and Grace Martel adding two apiece. First-year Paige Hummel compiled four ground balls.
The Gaels got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead at 10:56. Lehigh answered with a four-goal run, led by two goals from Kacie Wines, as the Mountain Hawks held a 4-2 advantage heading into the second quarter.
Molly Snow tallied her first score of the game to open the second quarter, and Iona responded at 11:40, with Lehigh leading 5-3. After a five-goal showing in the season-opener, Shannon Nolan notched back-to-back goals, extending Lehigh's lead to 7-3 with 7:41 remaining in the first half.
Iona broke up the run, before Grace Martel scored her first goal of the game to give the Mountain Hawks an 8-4 advantage at intermission.
Nolan opened the second half with another goal for the Mountain Hawks, completing her hat trick. The Gaels put in a goal at 11:03, but Martel followed up with her second goal and Nina DeNicola added her first of the game, as Lehigh led 11-5 at the close of the third quarter.
Iona put a sixth goal on the board to open the fourth period. At 10:58, Logan Barry netted her first collegiate goal, as the Mountain Hawks would go on to secure the 12-7 victory over Iona.
Lehigh (1-2) continues its road trip in New York with a 6 p.m. matchup at Columbia on Saturday evening.
