Mountain Hawks to Close Dual Season Saturday at Arizona State

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The final dual of the regular season sees the Mountain Hawks traveling to Tempe, Ariz., to face Arizona State Saturday night at Desert Financial Arena. Match time is set for 9 p.m. ET/7 p.m. MST with video coverage on ESPN+ and audio coverage on FOX Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM and LVFOXSports.com.

Lehigh closed out its home schedule last weekend with back-to-back wins over Penn and Bucknell to run its dual winning streak to eight. The Mountain Hawks won the final five bouts against Penn to erase a 14-6 deficit at intermission, while the Bucknell dual came down to the final bout at heavyweight where Nathan Taylor prevailed with a decision to secure the win for Lehigh.

For the fourth time in the last five seasons, Lehigh will close out its dual season against Arizona State. The dual is a rematch from the first consolation round at the National Duals Invitational in November, where Lehigh defeated Arizona State 24-18, winning six bouts. Remy Brancato-Roed's pin at 197 secured the dual for the Mountain Hawks.

No. 22 Lehigh's Senior Day EIWA matchup with Bucknell came down to a senior who will be back for one more year. With the Mountain Hawks holding an 18-16 lead after nine bouts, heavyweight Nathan Taylor defeated Lucas Lawler 9-5 to give Lehigh a 21-16 victory over the Bison inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The victory was Lehigh's sixth of the dual, which gave the Mountain Hawks their eighth straight dual win while closing the EIWA slate at a perfect 5-0. The win was highlighted by an upset from Seamus Mack who picked up a 5-3 win over No. 27 Dylan Chappell for his first career dual meet win. Sheldon Seymour won by technical fall in his final Grace Hall appearance and senior Max Brignola won a major decision over Noah Mulvaney in a battle of ranked wrestlers at 165.

Trailing 14-6 at intermission No. 22 Lehigh stormed back with wins in the final five bouts to defeat Penn 24-14 Feb. 13 inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. A 12-3 major decision by junior Rylan Rogers at 184 gave Lehigh the lead for good with the Mountain Hawks ultimately winning six of the 10 bouts on the night to claim their seventh straight dual win. Sheldon Seymour won by injury default at 125 to open the dual before the Quakers captured the next four bouts. Wins by Max Brignola and then Brady Collins in his dual debut sparked the comeback. Rogers' win at 184 was followed by a sudden-victory decision by graduate student JT Davis at 197 and a technical fall by heavyweight Nathan Taylor.

Seven Lehigh wrestlers appear in the latest rankings from InterMat, FloWrestling, and WrestleStat, while six are ranked by The Open Mat and five are ranked by Amateur Wrestling News. Graduate student Sheldon Seymour (125) is the highest ranked Mountain Hawk according to four of the five outlets, while sophomore Luke Stanich (141) and senior Nathan Taylor (285) are also ranked in the top 10 across the board. Sophomore Logan Rozynski (157) and senior Max Brignola (165) are also ranked by all five outlets.

Arizona State is 4-11 in duals this season. The Sun Devils are coming off a 31-9 victory at California Baptist on Feb. 13. Arizona State participated at the National Duals Invitational in November, where the Sun Devils went 0-2 with losses to Michigan and Lehigh. Five Sun Devils appear in the latest InterMat rankings, led by brothers Kyler (No. 5 at 133) and Kaleb (No. 6 at 157) Larkin. Former U.S. National Team head coach Zeke Jones is in his 12th season as head coach at his alma mater.

Lehigh and Arizona State meet for the 15th time. The Mountain Hawks have won the last two duals, including earlier this season at the National Duals Invitational. The Sun Devils had won the previous three meetings after a six-dual Lehigh winning streak. Lehigh last won in Tempe in 2018.

Next up, Lehigh will shift focus to the 122nd EIWA Championships, hosted by American, March 6-7 at Bender Arena in Washington. The Mountain Hawks won their league-leading 39th team title last year at Stabler Arena with four individual champions. Conference allocations for the NCAA Championships will be announced next week.
