TEMPE, Ariz. – In the final dual of the regular season, No. 22 Lehigh fell 24-11 at Arizona State Saturday night at Desert Financial Arena. The Sun Devils turned two close wins into a five-match run as Arizona State handed Lehigh its first dual loss of 2026 and stopped the Mountain Hawks' eight match winning streak.
Â
Lehigh finishes the dual season at 11-7.
Â
Despite being down several starters, things started well for the Mountain Hawks, who won two of the first three bouts.
Â
At 141, first-year Seamus Mack again subbed for Luke Stanich but gave Lehigh a fast start with a 15-0 technical fall over Carter Dibert. Mack scored a takedown and four-point near fall in the first period, reversed and added two more back points in the second and then scored an escape and takedown in the third to end the match at 5:44.
Â
Arizona State (5-11) picked up its first win at 149 as Benji Alanis won 9-2 over junior Owen Reinsel.
Â
Sophomore Griffin Gonzalez stepped in for Logan Rozynski at 157 and picked up a 7-1 win over Jabari Hinson, behind takedowns in each of the first two periods. The win was Gonzalez's first dual win of the season.
Â
Momentum swung Arizona State's way following a wild battle of ranked wrestlers at 165. Senior Max Brignola gave up an early takedown against Nicco Ruiz and trailed 4-2 in the third when an apparent go-ahead takedown was not awarded. Lehigh's initial challenge was unsuccessful, but after an independent review, Brignola was awarded a takedown and Ruiz a subsequent escape, tying the match at 5-5. The bout went to sudden victory where the period ended with no scoring after a late, lengthy scramble. Arizona State challenged and the winning takedown was awarded to Ruiz, who prevailed 8-5. The result reversed an overtime win for Brignola over Ruiz at the National Duals Invitational in November.
Â
A one-point match went the Sun Devils' way at 174 as Cael Valencia erased a 7-5 deficit by taking down sophomore Richie Grungo and then riding out to win 8-7. Grungo scored two takedowns, including the go-ahead score late in the second period, but wasn't able to secure the late escape needed to force overtime as Arizona State took a 9-8 lead at intermission.
Â
With junior Rylan Rogers a late scratch due to illness, first-year Brady Collins stepped up to face Shay Addison. Collins initiated the first shot but was caught on his back for seven points. He eventually battled back within 8-6 after two periods, but was unable to get out from bottom in the third as Addison prevailed 10-6 for Arizona State's third consecutive win.
Â
Senior Jack Wilt stepped in for JT Davis at 197 but fell 8-1 to Colton Hawks, as Arizona State's lead grew to 15-8.
Â
The second ranked-versus-ranked matchup of the night was at 285 where senior Nathan Taylor met David Szuba. Taylor was unable to capitalize on a good shot early in the first period. He led 1-0 early in the second when Szuba scored a takedown to go up 3-1. A second Szuba takedown in the third period secured a 7-3 victory as the Sun Devils went up by 10 with two bouts remaining.
Â
Graduate student Sheldon Seymour stopped the ASU run with an 11-4 decision over An'ee Vigil at 125. Seymour finishes the regular season at 16-0.
Â
With Lehigh trailing by seven, the Mountain Hawks chose to forfeit to No. 5 Kyler Larkin at 133.
Â
Arizona State's win snapped a two-dual Lehigh winning streak in the series. The Mountain Hawks prevailed 24-18 in Tulsa, Okla., last November. The only two rematches from that dual were at 165 (result reversed) and 125 (Seymour won again).
Â
The Mountain Hawks will now shift focus to the EIWA Championships, hosted by American, March 6-7 in Washington, D.C.
