Five Finalists Push Lehigh Into Team Lead After Day One at EIWA Championships
3/6/2026 10:29:00 PM | Men's Wrestling
WASHINGTON – Five Lehigh wrestlers advanced to Saturday's finals and punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships in Cleveland after a strong opening day of the EIWA Championships Friday at Bender Arena. The Mountain Hawks secured top eight places for nine of their 10 entrants and lead the team race with 123.5 points.
Lehigh trailed Navy heading into Friday night's semifinal round, but the Mountain Hawks went 5-2 in semifinal action, while Navy went 2-6. Bucknell is second in the team standings with 112 points, followed by Navy (101), Army West Point (90), and Drexel (84).
The five Lehigh finalists are graduate student Sheldon Seymour (125), sophomores Luke Stanich (141) and Logan Rozynski (157) and seniors Max Brignola (165) and Nathan Taylor (285).
Looking to win his second straight title at 125, Seymour posted a pair of technical falls Friday to set up a finals match with Navy's Andrew Binni, the No. 3 seed.
Stanich, the 2024 champion at 125, posted a pair of major decision victories Friday to reach the finals for the second time. A 14-4 major over Bucknell's Dylan Chappell set up a finals match with Navy's Caedyn Ricciardi.
Rozynski is also looking to win his second straight title at 157. After a 5-3 win over Bucknell's Cade Wirnsberger to begin the day, Rozynski pinned Army's Joseph Antonio in 1:58 in the semifinals. He will face Morgan State's Yannis Charles in Saturday's finals.
Brignola reached his first career EIWA final, posting a 9-2 win over Franklin & Marshall's Josh Palmucci and then winning a 20-4 technical fall over Cody Walsh of Drexel. In the finals, Brignola will face Bucknell's Noah Mulvaney.
Taylor will make his third career finals appearance on Saturday. He delivered Lehigh's first fall of the tournament, needed just 47 seconds to pin Bucknell's Logan Shephard in the quarterfinals. Taylor then defeated Navy's Spencer Lanosga 5-0 behind a first period takedown and strong work on top to earn a finals matchup with Drexel's Nate Schon.
Senior Carter Bailey (149) and junior Rylan Rogers (184) will wrestle in consolation semifinals Saturday morning. Bailey won a pair of major decisions as the No. 11 seed before falling 6-0 to Bucknell's Riley Bower. Rogers won a first round major decision but dropped a 10-3 decision to American's Caleb Campos in the semifinals.
Graduate student JT Davis (197) and sophomore Richie Grungo (174) bounced back from quarterfinal losses to reach the podium. Davis went 3-1 Friday with three bonus point wins, but lost a 2-1 heartbreaker to Zyan Hall of Navy. He won his next two consolations to reach the consolation semifinals and can still finish as high as third. Grungo went 2-2 with both wins coming via major decision. He will wrestle for seventh place Saturday morning.
The only Mountain Hawk eliminated Friday was first-year Ethan Smith, who had to default with an injury in the third period of his opening bout at 133 and then medically forfeited out of the tournament.
The EIWA Championships conclude Saturday with action beginning at 11 a.m. with the consolation semifinals and seventh place matches. The finals session, featuring matches for first, third and fifth places, will begin at 2 p.m. Streaming video will be available on FloWrestling.org, while audio coverage of the finals session will air on FOX Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM and LVFOXSports.com beginning at 1:45 p.m.
