Mountain Hawks Host Penn, Bucknell in Final Home Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 22 Lehigh will host a pair of regional rivals at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall for its final home weekend. The Mountain Hawks will host Penn Friday at 7 p.m. on Community Heroes Night and then will host Bucknell on Senior Day Saturday at 2 p.m.

Lehigh extended its winning streak to six with a 34-9 victory at Morgan State Feb. 6. The Mountain Hawks won seven bouts, scoring bonus points in six of those wins, with Luke Stanich recording his first fall of the season and five other Lehigh wrestlers winning via technical fall. The victory was No. 200 for head coach Pat Santoro at Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks will recognize their eight member senior class: Carter Bailey, Max Brignola, JT Davis, Keegan Gagnon, Dontae Hoose, Zac Martin, Sheldon Seymour and Jack Wilt, prior to Saturday's dual against Bucknell.

Six Lehigh wrestlers appear in the second NCAA coaches' ranking, while four Mountain Hawks appear in the initial RPI, with both rankings announced Feb. 12. Four of Lehigh's wrestlers in the coaches' ranking appear in the top 10, led by graduate student Sheldon Seymour, who is fourth at 125. The coaches' ranking and RPI are two of several criteria that will be evaluated by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee during the at-large and seeding process for the NCAA Championships. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. Fifteen matches are required to earn an RPI.

No. 21 Lehigh picked up its sixth consecutive dual win in the new year with a 34-9 victory at Morgan State Feb. 6 at Hurt Gymnasium. The Mountain Hawks won seven of 10 bouts, scoring bonus points in six of those seven wins. The victory was No. 200 for Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro as coach of the Mountain Hawks. The 18th-year mentor is now 200-92-1 in charge of the Brown and White. After dropping the opening bout, Lehigh took an 11-3 lead behind a technical fall from Mason Ziegler and Luke Stanich's first fall of the season. A 6-4 win for Logan Rozynski put Lehigh up 14-6 at the midway point and the Mountain Hawks won four of the final five bouts, with all four of those victories coming via technical fall.

He is the second coach in program history to reach 200 dual wins at Lehigh, joining the legendary Billy Sheridan, who won 223 duals from 1912-52. Add in 48 dual meet wins at Maryland and Santoro has 248 dual wins in his coaching career.

Lehigh will recognize its eight member senior class prior to Saturday's dual. The Mountain Hawks' class of 2026 includes a pair of sixth-year wrestlers, four fifth-year seniors and two true seniors. Among the Lehigh seniors, Sheldon Seymour, Carter Bailey, Max Brignola and JT Davis are listed as probable starters for this weekend's duals.

Penn brings a 6-2 record into Friday's dual. The Quakers' two losses have come at the hands of Ivy League rivals Columbia and Cornell, with Penn losing to the Big Red 19-13 last time out at the Palestra. On the tournament circuit, Penn started 2026 with a runner-up finish at the Southern Scuffle. Penn's lineup features six ranked wrestlers, led by CJ Composto (141) and Cross Wasilewski (149). Matt Valenti is in his first season as head coach at his alma mater. Former Lehigh NCAA Champion Darian Cruz '18 is in his second season as an assistant coach on the Quaker staff.

Lehigh has won nine of the last 11 duals after stopping Penn's two-match winning streak in 2024. The only break in the series over the last 27 seasons was 2021 when the Ivy League did not participate in intercollegiate athletics. Pat Santoro is 13-3 against the Quakers as Lehigh's head coach.

Bucknell is 6-10 overall in duals and 4-2 against EIWA opponents. The Bison are coming off a 1-1 weekend last time out with Bucknell winning 21-17 at Drexel before suffering a 19-18 loss against Navy. Myles Takats (174) was named EIWA Wrestler of the Week after defeating Navy All-American Danny Wask. Takats holds the highest ranking of the seven nationally-ranked Bison. Dan Wirnsberger is in his 21st season as Bucknell's head coach.

Lehigh and Bucknell will meet for the 20th time. The Mountain Hawks won the first nine duals in the series and the last nine. Bucknell's only win in the series came in the 2013-14 season-opener.

For the fourth time in the last five seasons, Lehigh will close out the dual season against Arizona State, with this year's meeting taking place Feb. 21 in Tempe, Ariz. This will be the second meeting this season between Lehigh and Arizona State, with the Mountain Hawks winning 24-18 at the National Duals Invitational, The Feb. 21 dual will begin at 9 p.m. ET/7 p.m, MST.
