BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Trailing 14-6 at intermission No. 22 Lehigh stormed back with wins in the final five bouts to defeat Penn 24-14 Friday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. A 12-3 major decision by junior Rylan Rogers at 184 gave Lehigh the lead for good with the Mountain Hawks ultimately winning six of the 10 bouts on the night to claim their seventh straight dual win.
Â
Lehigh improves to 10-6 on the dual season and has now won the last three duals against its former conference rival.
The Mountain Hawks took an early 6-0 as graduate student Sheldon Seymour won by injury default over Davis Motyka. Seymour secured a takedown near the midway point of the opening period to lead 3-0 when Motyka appeared to tweak something in his leg. After taking an injury timeout, Motyka was unable to finish the match.
Â
Penn responded with four consecutive victories to go up 14-6. Evan Mougalian edged first-year Mason Ziegler 1-0 at 133 with the only point on a third period escape. With sophomore Luke Stanich out of the lineup at 141, first-year Seamus Mack took on seventh-ranked CJ Composto and dropped a 16-3 major decision. The Quakers claimed a second straight major at 149 as fourth-ranked Cross Wasilewski won 12-2 over sophomore Matt Repos.
Â
A matchup of ranked wrestlers at 157 went to Penn's 10th-ranked Jude Swisher, who edged No. 11 Logan Rozynski 3-1. In a match that featured zero takedowns, two penalty points for stalling against Rozynski proved to be the difference.
Â
Coming out of the break, senior Max Brignola started the Lehigh run with a 5-1 decision over Sean Seefeldt at 165. Brignola broke a 1-1 tie with a late third period takedown and added riding time advantage.
Â
Head coach Pat Santoro had true first-year Brady Collins make his dual debut at 174 and Collins delivered a big 4-1 decision over Caden Bellis. Collins trailed 1-0 in the second period when he scored the bout's only takedown. A third period escape put Collins up three and he successfully defended the final period to bring Lehigh within 14-12 after seven bouts.
Â
Rogers scored a takedown in each period in his 12-3 major decision victory over Liam Carlin at 184, which put the Mountain Hawks in front.
Â
Graduate student JT Davis picked up a hard-fought 4-1 sudden victory decision over Martin Cosgrove at 197 to extend the Lehigh lead. Davis got in on a leg and converted the winning takedown 1:28 into the sudden victory period.
Â
Senior Nathan Taylor closed the dual with a 17-2 technical fall victory over John Pardo, secured at the 6:48 mark.
