Breslin and Morgan Both Score Four Times as Lehigh Cruises past Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Lehigh defeated Iona 16-7 Tuesday afternoon, improving to 1-1 on the young season. The Gaels fell to 0-3 with the loss.Â
Lehigh was led by its two young attackers. First-year Finn Morgan, coming off Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after scoring six goals against Fairfield, scored four Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Luke Breslin also scored four, a career high, and added three assists.
Senior, Andrew Kelly added two goals, his first of the season, and assisted on three others.
On defense, senior Richard Checo caused five turnovers, leaving him six shy of the Division I record. Junior Connor Riley matched a career high with 10 ground balls, leading the way in the faceoff circle, he was 10-for-19 on faceoffs.Â
Goaltender Kasey Heath made several key saves, picking up his first win of the season by stopping seven shots and allowing five goals.
Lehigh got off to a fast start, leading 6-2 after the first quarter. Sophomore Noah Ramirez scored his first career goal to open the scoring, followed by two from Morgan and one from both Hansen Polonkey and Grant Rodny. Heath made an incredible save at the end of the period to preserve the four-goal lead.
Two of Breslin's four goals came in the second quarter. Cullen Lawry, who led Iona with two goals, also scored twice in the period, sending the game to halftime with Lehigh ahead 8-4.
Lehigh also controlled the third quarter. Morgan and Breslin both scored, along with Jack Archer, while Iona managed a single goal, leaving the Mountain Hawks ahead 11-5 after three quarters.
Lehigh scored three goals in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to take a 14-5 lead. Later in the period, junior Trevor Brotons scored his first career goal to extend the Mountain Hawks' lead to 16-6. Lehigh held Iona at arm's length for the remainder of the game, winning 16-7.
