Klebe Headlines Record Breaking Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- Lehigh's women's track and field team competed in two meets over the weekend. Half of the team was sent to the Armory in New York City to compete at the Dr. Sander Scorcher on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Columbia University. The other half stayed in Bethlehem, competing at the Moravian Hounds Classic on Saturday.

Lehigh had a couple of runners who placed well in day one of the competition. Senior Abby Klebe led the charge with a seventh place finish in the invitational 800 meters. She finished in 2:09.56, which ranks her 40th in the NCAA this season.Â
Two athletes ran personal best times on Friday. Senior Dakota Russell opened the meet with the open 3000 meter race. She ran 10:13.97 and placed seventh. First-year Lyssi Penn tied her personal record in the 60 meter hurdles, where she ran 9.02 to place 18th.Â
The two other invitational races that featured Mountain Hawks were the 60 and 400 meter events. Gianna Mangili was the only Lehigh runner in the 60. She placed 19th, crossing the line in 7.87. The invitational 400 featured senior Grace Kennedy and junior Jade Sanders, where the pair competed head-to-head in heat four. Kennedy led the way in 11th place with a 56.90-second race, and Sanders followed behind at 57.23 to place 14th.
Lehigh followed up their success on day one with an even better day two. The day started with a massive personal best run in the mile for Grace Hughes. The junior broke the five-minute mark for the first time with a 4:57.03 race in the open division, placing fourth overall. This time also earned her a spot on Lehigh's all-time indoor performance list at 10th. Her cross country teammate sophomore Kaitlyn Highduch also earned a new personal best time in the 5000. She ran 17:24.68, which was both good for tenth place in the meet and the eighth spot on the all-time list.
The best race of the day came from Klebe. She one-upped her previous day's performance with an even better race in the invitational mile. Her time of 4:44.06 was a new school record for Lehigh, which had stood since 2019. She placed fourth for the meet, and her time ranks her 57th in the NCAA this season.
Kennedy and Sanders also returned to the Armory for day two, this time in the seeded 200. They once again competed head-to-head, with Kennedy (25.63, 22nd) again edging out Sanders (25.65, 23rd).
The day two field events featured a pair of invitational sixth place performances for the Mountain Hawks. Sophomore Anna Troutman started the day off clearing the 1.63 meter-high bar in the high jump. Senior Grace Aggen earned sixth in the shot put, throwing 13.87 meters.Â
Moravian Hounds Classic
The Mountain Hawks were dominant on their home track, finishing in the top ten 34 times across 16 events.
The distance events were commanded by Mountain Hawks. Lehigh got the meet started by sweeping the podium in the distance medley relay. The team of Isabel Owens, Kayleigh Jamieson, Siri Hellenbrand, and Dakota Russell took first place with a time of 12:39.64. The 3000 meter also featured a trio of Mountain Hawk representatives in the top ten. First-year Grace Trimmer led the way in fourth running 10:26.11. Following her was sophomore Brenna Dahlgen and senior Elisa Brear, who finished in 10:54.25 (6th) and 11:19.12 (7th), respectively. The event where Lehigh had the most control was the mile, where the Mountain Hawks had the top six finishers. First-year Katelyn Nolan led the way, running 5:23.38 en route to her first career win. Three other first-years were in this group of six, namely Mallory Sherrer (5:26.81, 2nd), Emma Hyde (5:30.88, 4th), and Emerson Skatell (5:34.47, 6th). Owens and junior Aurora Wilson were also a part of the mix, running 5:28.01 (3rd) and 5:32.56 (5th), respectively. Sophomore Chloe Browne also placed highly in the 5000, placing seventh with a time of 19:34.38.
First-year Harper Glennon came away with two wins on the day. She first won the 60 meter final, running a personal best time of 7.71. That time makes her the second fastest athlete for Lehigh all-time in that event. She then went on to win the 200, her 26.20-second run led a quartet of Mountain Hawks to top finishes. She was trailed by first-years Maggie Scalzo (26.53, 4th) and Faith Schiffer (26.70, 5th), as well as sophomore Lanae Carrington (26.96).Â
Lyssi Penn also earned a victory at the 60-meter distance, as she won the 60 meter hurdles. Following the tying of her personal best time on Friday, she broke the nine-second mark for the first time in her college career, running 8.99. Just behind her in third was Scalzo, who also ran a new best time, as she crossed the line in 9.05.
Lehigh earned two podium spots and two top -five finishes in each of the two long-sprinting events. Carrington took third in the 400, running 1:00.73. Sophomore Adelaide Videon-Perino placed just behind her in 5th, as she ran 1:01.01. Lily Schindler was the runner up in the 800, the first-year finished in 2:21. Not far behind in fourth was sophomore Jacqueline Gifford, who ran 2:29.39.
Sophomore Madeline Hussey was the top thrower for Lehigh in the shot put, throwing 11.66 meters. She was one of three Mountain Hawks to place in the top ten. First-year Avery Hogan earned fifth, throwing the shot a personal best distance of 11.40 meters. Ninth place was sophomore Alyson Marmor, who threw 11.14 meters. Sophomore Olivia Dubrow marshaled Lehigh in the weight throw. She tossed the weight 12.90 meters to earn tenth place.
First-year Charlotte DeForest was Lehigh's best horizontal jumper at the meet, placing in the top four in both events. She leaped a collegiate best 5.33 meters in the long jump, placing fourth. She bettered her standing in the triple jump, where she came second with a 10.61-meter jump.
Corinn Brewer had two top finishes as well. She and fellow senior Lena Perlmutter took the top two spots in the pole vault. Brewer cleared 3.47 meters to win the event, and Perlmutter followed with a 3.32-meter jump. In the high jump, Brewer placed sixth by jumping 1.48 meters. She trailed senior Melanie LaCorte, who was the top Lehigh jumper, as she cleared the 1.52-meter height.Â
Lehigh will be back competing at Rauch Fieldhouse next Saturday, when the Mountain Hawks face off against Lafayette in The Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute, part of Jefferson Health.
