
Early Lead Propels Lehigh to Victory over Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Lehigh men's lacrosse earned a gritty 10-6 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at Kuzniewski Field. With the win, the Mountain Hawks improved to 4-7 overall (3-2 Patriot League), while the Crusaders dropped to 3-9 (1-5 PL).
The first half was the difference on Saturday with Lehigh jumping out to an 8-1 lead. The Mountain Hawks' early dominance proved to be the difference, despite Holy Cross outscoring Lehigh 5-2 in the second half.
Lehigh extended its lead to 10-1 with 10:27 left in the third quarter, but Holy Cross mounted a late rally, scoring five unanswered goals. The Mountain Hawks were shut out for the final 25 minutes, but their nine-goal lead was enough to secure the win.
First-year attackman Colin French had a breakout performance, recording a career-high five points with four goals and one assist. French's first-half hat trick was key in helping Lehigh establish a commanding early advantage.
Sophomore attackman Luke Winkler (2G, 1A), senior midfielder Dakota Eierman (1G, 2A), and sophomore midfielder Jack Archer (2G) also contributed multiple points. Junior midfielder Grant Rodny (1G) and sophomore defenseman Zach Mesa (1A) added to the scoring as well.
Senior faceoff specialist Sean Dow was dominant at the faceoff "X," winning 18 of 20 battles and collecting 12 ground balls. Dow took all of Lehigh's faceoffs, limiting Holy Cross to just two wins at the stripe.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Heath continued his strong play, finishing with 13 saves and extending his streak of double-digit save performances to 11 games. Heath posted a game-high 66.7% save percentage.
Lehigh outshot Holy Cross 40-38 and held a 41-32 advantage in ground balls.
Matthew Carbonell led the Crusaders with two points, scoring one goal and adding one assist.
Next up, Lehigh will host Colgate on Saturday April 12 at 12 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
