Mountain Hawks Stopped By Boston University in 12-7 Loss

BOSTON - The final three quarters proved to be the difference on Saturday, as Lehigh men's lacrosse fell to No. 20 Boston University, 12–7. The Mountain Hawks dropped to 5-8 (4-3 PL) and the Terriers jumped to 9-4 (5-2 PL).
Tied 2–2 at the end of the first quarter, the Terriers outscored the Mountain Hawks 10–5 the rest of the way to secure the win.
The game was a rematch of the 2024 Patriot League Championship, where Lehigh edged Boston University 11–10 to claim the title last season.
Lehigh had opportunities throughout the game, holding a 43–38 edge in shots, but BU goalkeeper Will Barnes stood tall with a career performance, posting 23 saves and a 76.7% save percentage. Lehigh's Kasey Heath finished with 13 saves in the cage.
Junior midfielder Peter Theodoropoulos tied the game at 2–2 with a turnaround shot late in the first quarter, but Boston University responded with two straight goals to take its first multi-goal lead.
Sophomore attackman Luke Winkler pulled Lehigh within one at 7–6 with 4:41 left in the third quarter, but that would be as close as the Mountain Hawks would get. The Terriers answered with two quick goals to pull away again.
Winkler led the way for Lehigh with his second consecutive hat trick, marking a career-high for the Ridgefield, Conn., native. Senior midfielder Dakota Eierman (1G, 1A), first-year attackman Colin French (1G, 1A), Theodoropoulos (1G), and junior long-stick midfielder Richard Checo (1G) rounded out the scoring for the Mountain Hawks.
Saturday's contest was a physical one, featuring nine penalties. Both teams struggled on extra-man opportunities—Lehigh went 0-for-5, while BU went 0-for-4.
Boston University committed 15 turnovers compared to Lehigh's eight. Checo led all players with three caused turnovers and added to his impact on both ends of the field.
The Terriers also edged Lehigh in ground balls, 33–28.
With one regular season game remaining, Lehigh is tied with Colgate and Lafayette for third place in the Patriot League standings.
The Mountain Hawks will return home to host Lafayette on Friday at 7 p.m. in the regular season finale.
