
Mountain Hawks Victorious Over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - Lehigh was victorious in Wednesday's rivalry matchup, defeating Lafayette 17-16.

Kacie Wines and Molly Snow both scored six goals to lead Lehigh.

Lafayette struck first, taking a 1-0 lead with 12:35 on the clock in the first. Lehigh responded with three unanswered goals, with Wines scoring two and Snow tallying one to take a 3-1 lead.

The Leopards broke up the run, netting two goals in a row to tie the game at 3-3. With just under two minutes left in the first quarter, Snow capitalized on a free position opportunity, giving Lehigh a 4-3 lead with 1:41 on the clock. In the final seconds of the quarter, the Mountain Hawks turned the ball over in transition, in which Lafayette capitalized in the final seconds to even the score at 4-4 heading into the second quarter.

Lafayette netted the first goal of the second quarter, taking a 5-4 lead with 12:24 left in the half. At 11:34, Quinn Meyer scored a free position goal to even the score at 5-5. Shortly after at 9:47, Lafayette was awarded a free position opportunity in which they scored and took a 6-5 lead.

The Leopards kept momentum, scoring another to take a 7-5 lead with 9:10. Snow broke up the run, securing a hat trick, as Lehigh trailed 7-6. Less than a minute later, Grace Martel capitalized on a free position shot to tie it up at 7-7 with 6:53 left in the second. Lehigh wasn't finished on the run, as Wines secured her hat trick to give the Mountain Hawks an 8-7 lead with 6:18 remaining before halftime.

With 45 seconds left in the half, Angelina Pino fed a ball to Gracie Shoup at the crease. Shoup collected the ball and scored a behind the back goal to give Lehigh a 10-7 lead at intermission.

Opening the second half at 11:14, Lafayette found the back of the net, as Lehigh held a 10-8 advantage. The next goal came at 7:04, as Wines scored a free position goal, putting Lehigh up 11-8. Lehigh maintained momentum, as Snow tallied her fourth goal of the contest on a free position shot as Lehigh led 12-8.

It wasn't long before Snow found the back of the net again, scoring her fifth goal with 4:55 left in the third quarter. Lafayette broke up the run, netting two in a row to cut Lehigh's lead to 13-10 with 2:55 left in the quarter.

At 2:04, Martel got her second goal of the game, pushing Lehigh's lead to 14-10. Lafayette wasn't finished scoring as the Leopards made it 14-11 with six seconds to go in the third.

The goals kept coming for Lehigh in the fourth quarter, as Wines and Snow both tallied one early on, giving the Mountain Hawks a 16-11 lead with 11:53 left. Lafayette was not done, going on a 6-1 run to make it a one goal game with Lehigh holding a slim 17-16 lead with 2:36 remaining.
