Mountain Hawks Bested In Sunday Doubleheader

4/13/2025 7:07:00 PM | Baseball

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Patriot League season continued on Sunday afternoon for Lehigh baseball on the road in a doubleheader against the Army West Point Black Knights. The Mountain Hawks were bested in games one and two, 11-0 and 10-5.

Receiving the win in game one for Army (16-17, 10-7 PL) was starter Andrew Berg who struck out seven in 6.0 innings pitched of the seven-inning game. Lehigh (16-17, 5-9 PL) starter Liam O'Hearen was credited with the loss after allowing the go-ahead runs in the second inning.

The Mountain Hawks were able to generate a few chances through the first two innings, collecting two hits while leaving three on base. However, the Black Knights took a commanding lead in the bottom of the seventh. Army totaled seven runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run home run from Zac Farrell to open the game's scoring.

After Lehigh left another three on base in the fourth, the Black Knights took advantage and added to their lead. Addison Ainsworth homered to make it 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth. In the sixth, Army added two more runs on an Ainsworth RBI single and Jack Quinlan RBI single to put the Black Knights ahead 11-0. Mark Abell retired the side in the top of the seventh to secure the game one win for Army.

Jake Whitlinger, Dom Patrizi, Owen Walewander and Edwin Betances provided the hits for Lehigh. In addition to O'Hearen, Jake Mulvehill, Tommy Lamar and Ralph Gariano saw action on the mound in game one.

Army's Justin Lehman picked up the win in game two, who struck out eight batters while allowing four runs in 6.0 innings pitched. Julio Ermigiotti picked up the loss after allowing the go-ahead runs in the second. Relief pitcher Kevin Reavey earned the save for the Black Knights.

Both teams exchanged 1-2-3 innings to begin game two. After the Mountain Hawks were held scoreless in the second, Army added six runs in the bottom of the frame. Quinlan homered to get things started for the Black Knights followed by RBIs from Abell, Chris Barr and a home run from Ainsworth.

The Mountain Hawks had a strong response in the third, scoring three runs. Ryan Davis scored on a bases loaded walk before an Aidan Quinn single drove home two more. An Andrew Kohl sac-fly the following inning brought the Mountain Hawks within two runs.

In the sixth, Quinlan added an insurance run with an RBI single before Kohl recorded his first homer of the season in the seventh to set the score at 8-5. Two more runs came across the plate for Army in the bottom of the eighth, and after holding the Mountain Hawks scoreless in the top of the ninth, the Black Knights won 10-5.

Robbie Carvelli, Quinn, Walewander, Trystan Crawford, Davis and Kohl recorded hits for the Mountain Hawks in game two. Jack Hamilton, Marcus Danchision and Max Treonze also appeared on the mound for Lehigh.

The Mountain Hawks will conclude the series on Monday, April 14 at 12 p.m. for a single game against the Black Knights.
