Lehigh Takes Down Iona 12-4

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Led by sophomore Molly Snow's seven points, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks defeated the Iona Gaels 12-4 on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
Lehigh kicked off scoring with 8:40 to go in the first quarter as Snow gave the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 lead. Iona responded with back-to-back goals, taking a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.
The Mountain Hawks opened the second quarter with a three-goal run to lead 4-2, featuring goals from Snow, Gracie Shoup and Grace Martel. At 10:25, the Gaels broke up the run, decreasing Lehigh's lead to 4-3.
At 2:24 in the second, Shoup netted a goal off an assist from Snow as Lehigh led 5-3 heading into halftime.
Lehigh's Angelina Pino opened the scoring in the second half, extending Lehigh's lead to 6-3 with 13:01 remaining in the quarter. At 7:47, Snow secured her third goal of the contest as the Mountain Hawks held a 7-3 advantage.
Iona broke up the run, as Calen Norton decreased the Mountain Hawk lead to 7-4.
First-year Chloe DelNegro scored a free position shot with eight seconds remaining in the third quarter as Lehigh led 8-4 going into the fourth period.
Starting with DelNegro's goal, the Mountain Hawks rounded out the game on a 5-0 run, featuring five different goal-scorers. Snow dished out two assists in the sequence. Shoup, Angelina Pino, Kacie Wines and Emmie Ridgeway all contributed goals in the fourth quarter as Lehigh secured the 12-4 victory.
Defensively, Brynn Freeman led the way with three caused turnovers, while adding two draw controls and two groundballs. Martel was Lehigh's leader in draw controls with four.
Lehigh remains home for a matchup with Campbell on Friday at 2 p.m. Friday's game will be the program's Morgan's Message Game.
