
Strong Third Quarter Lifts American Over Lehigh

WASHINGTON - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team opened Patriot League play with a 17-10 loss to American on Saturday in Washington, D.C.

Lehigh got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead off a player-up free position goal from Kacie Wines with 14:06 on the clock.

American responded with two goals to close out the first period, taking a 2-1 lead into the second quarter. The Eagles opened the second quarter with another goal, extending their lead to 3-1 with 12:14 left in the first half.

Molly Snow responded with a quick goal, decreasing American's lead to 3-2 with 11:43 remaining in the second. Soon after at 10:20, American increased its lead to 4-2 before Kacie Wines made it a 4-3 game with just over eight minutes left in the half.

American added two more goals in the second quarter, as Snow once again responded to the second, with Lehigh trailing 6-4 at intermission.

The Eagles went on a 6-1 run in the third quarter, with Angelina Pino scoring the lone goal for Lehigh around the eight minute mark. After the dominant run, American held a 12-5 lead heading into the final quarter.

American extended its lead to 13-5 with the first goal of the fourth quarter. At 11:55, Ava Jennings broke up the run with her first career goal as Lehigh trailed 13-6.

The Mountain Hawks maintained momentum, as Quinn Meyer scored her first goal of the season (10:07), decreasing American's lead to 13-7. Grace Martel got on the board with 8:34, as Lehigh climbed back within 13-8.

The Eagles broke up the run with back-to-back goals, taking a 15-8 lead with 4:39 left in the game. At 3:49, Wines secured the hat trick as the Mountain Hawks trailed 15-9. American wasn't done scoring, as they added two more goals, taking a 17-9 lead. With under a minute left, Snow added another goal but American secured the 17-10 victory over Lehigh.
