2/1/2025 5:23:00 PM | Men's Wrestling

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After dropping the first bout, Lehigh rolled off four consecutive wins to take a 14-3 lead halfway and the Mountain Hawks never looked back in a 27-10 victory over No. 24 Army West Point Saturday inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Saturday's match was Salute to Service, presented by Weis Markets.

Lehigh won seven of the 10 bouts, with three bonus point wins and three victories over ranked Black Knight wrestlers. The Mountain Hawks even their season record at 4-4, while Army West Point falls to 6-3.

Saturday's dual began at 174 with Army's Dalton Harkins edging senior Thayne Lawrence 4-2 on the strength of a second period takedown.

Sophomore Caden Rodgers followed with a 3-1 decision over Jakob Gilfoil at 184 to tie the dual at 3-3 and start a four-bout Lehigh winning streak. Scoreless after one period, Rogers was ridden out in the second, and trailing 1-0 early in the third, converted a takedown and rode out to pick up the Mountain Hawks' first win of the day.

Senior Michael Beard followed with his second technical fall victory in as many days, taking care of Army's 26th-ranked Wolfgang Frable 20-3 in 5:16.

Graduate student heavyweight Owen Trephan followed Beard with a 4-1 decision over Lucas Stoddard in a battle of ranked wrestlers. Trephan scored the only takedown of the bout early in the third period after Stoddard chose neutral.

The four-match run concluded with a 7-4 decision by junior Sheldon Seymour over No. 25 Charlie Farmer at 125, which gave Lehigh a 14-3 lead at the halfway point. Seymour conceded the first takedown but battled back with a takedown in the second period and a reversal and ride out in the third.

The Black Knights picked up their second win at 133 as nationally-ranked Ethan Berginc won 2-1 over first-year Matty Lopes. Berginc escaped to open the second and then rode out the third, with Lopes picking up a penalty point for stalling.

Junior Carter Bailey put Lehigh back on track with his second major decision of the weekend as he scored a takedown in each period plus a penalty point, escape and riding time in a 12-1 victory over Richard Treanor at 141.

Senior Malyke Hines followed with a high-scoring 12-10 decision over Trae McDaniel at 149. Hines gave up the first takedown, but battled back with a takedown, two-point near fall and a reversal in the second period, plus an escape and another reversal in the third. The victory put Lehigh up 21-6 with two bouts remaining.

First-year Logan Rozynski delivered the exclamation point for Lehigh with a second period pin of Dakota Morris at 157. After a scoreless first period, Rozynski reversed Morris to his back early in the second, getting the fall at 3:24.

Army claimed the final bout with No. 17 Gunner Filipowicz winning a scramble for a seven-point move early in the first period on the way to a 20-6 major decision over first-year Richie Grungo at 165.

The Mountain Hawks are back on the road Friday when they face Bucknell in EIWA action at Davis Gym in Lewisburg, Pa. Match time is 6 p.m. with broadcast coverage on ESPN+ and FOX Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM in Easton and LVFOXSports.com.
