
Four Mountain Hawks Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars By GCAA

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four members of the Lehigh men's golf team have been named NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for the 2023-24 season by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Lehigh's honorees for the past season include graduate students Sam Barton and David Hurly, junior Jahan Bains and sophomore Will Caronchi. Hurly was recognized for the third consecutive year, while Barton caps his career with back-to-back GCAA academic honors.

To be eligible for the GCAA All-America Scholar team at the Division I level, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically, participate in 40 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

Barton earned All-Patriot League honors for the third time in his career with a ninth-place finish at the Patriot League Championship. He had a 74.73 scoring average over 15 rounds. A 2023 graduate with a degree in finance, Barton was enrolled in Lehigh's technical entrepreneurship master's program this past season.

Hurly led the Mountain Hawks with a 71.95 scoring average and posted a pair of tournament wins in 2023-24, capturing the Temple Invitational in September and the Lehigh Invitational in October. Like Barton, Hurly was a 2023 finance graduate and studied technical entrepreneurship in his graduate season.

Bains played in 21 of Lehigh's 23 rounds this past season, posting a 74.9 scoring average. He posted three top 20 tournament finishes during the 2023-24 season. Off the course, Bains is an IDEAS major with a 3.75 cumulative GPA.

Caronchi became a lineup mainstay in the spring semester, playing in 18 rounds overall and posting a 75.278 scoring average. His season was highlighted by a top five finish at Lafayette's ABARTA Collegiate Invitational. Academically, Caronchi is a finance major with a 3.46 GPA.

This marks the sixth consecutive year that at least one Lehigh men's golfer was recognized and the second straight year that the Mountain Hawks had four honorees. A total of 531 NCAA Division I athletes from 180 schools earned 2023-24 GCAA All-America Scholar honors.
As a team, the Mountain Hawks were also recognized with the GCAAÂ All-Academic Team Award for having a team GPA over 3.0. Lehigh was one of 72 Division I programs to achieve this honor.
