No. 17 Lehigh Edged 13-10 to No. 3 Johns Hopkins in First Round Of NCAA Tournament

BALTIMORE - In a game that lasted nearly four hours due to two weather delays, it was third-seeded Johns Hopkins who came out with the victory, defeating No. 17 Lehigh 13-10 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday afternoon at Homewood Field.
Senior attackman and Lehigh's all-time leading goal scorer Scott Cole netted his second and final goal of the day, giving the Mountain Hawks a 10-9 lead with 6:41 to play, and the Blue Jays would end the game on a 4-0 run to capture the victory. Cole finished his career in the brown and white with 131 goals scored, which is the most in program history.
Lehigh was riding a six-game win streak coming into Sunday's game as the Mountain Hawks last suffered a loss on April 2 to Princeton. Lehigh ended its season with a 10-7 record, while Johns Hopkins improved to 11-4.
Sunday's game was a back-and-forth affair that featured six ties and five lead changes. Sophomore attackman Andrew Kelly and senior Quinn Armstrong led the way with three goals apiece. Cole (2G), Grant Rodny (1G) and Aidan Decker (1G, 1A) scored the other five goals for the Mountain Hawks. Freddie Amato recorded Lehigh's other assist on Sunday.
Kelly opened up the scoring on Sunday six minutes into the game. The Blue Jays responded with a goal of their own to tie things at 1-1. Armstrong put Lehigh back on top with 5:37 remaining in the first, but Johns Hopkins scored the next three goals, and the Blue Jays would not lose their lead until 10:48 remaining in the game when Kelly scored his third and final goal of the game. Kelly's goal capped a 4-0 run for Lehigh after the Mountain Hawks trailed 8-5 with 9:30 remaining in the third quarter.
Sunday's contest featured an even stat sheet in almost all categories. Sean Dow won 15-of-27 faceoffs while also picking up 10 ground balls. Johns Hopkins won 12-of-27 faceoffs, but the Blue Jays won 7-of-9 in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore defenseman Richard Checo, who recorded the 100th caused turnover of his career on Sunday, finished with a game-high of three caused turnovers. Checo has now recorded 102 caused turnovers in two seasons.
Senior goalkeeper Nick Pecora finished with nine saves in net. Chayse Ierlan recorded 12 saves for the Blue Jays.
Johns Hopkins was led by Matt Collison, who finished with a game-high of five points (4G, 1A).
