Lehigh Falls to Boston University in Overtime

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Boston University defeated Lehigh 14-13 in overtime at Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Mountain Hawks fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in Patriot League play. The Terriers improve to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in league play.
In the loss, first-year Finn Morgan recorded a hat trick. Morgan has now scored three or more goals in five of the six games Lehigh has played this season. Luke Breslin also added a hat trick for the Mountain Hawks, extending his streak of scoring at least one goal in every game this season.
Luke McAuliffe caused a season-high three turnovers, while Richard Checo added two. In net for the Mountain Hawks, Kasey Heath made a season-high 16 saves, including a clutch stop with less than a minute remaining to keep the score tied at 12.Â
Jack Archer struck first for Lehigh, giving the Mountain Hawks an early 1-0 lead. Goals from Finn Morgan, Luke Breslin and Peter Theodoropoulos gave Lehigh four in the opening quarter. Boston University matched the four goals in the frame, and the teams ended the first quarter tied at 4-4.
Archer and Morgan each scored in the second quarter for Lehigh, while Boston University responded with two goals of its own, sending the teams into the locker room tied at 6-6.Â
Lehigh opened the third quarter with three straight goals. Andrew Kelly started the second-half scoring, followed by Morgan and Breslin. Each team added a goal as the period wound down, giving Lehigh a 10-7 lead entering the fourth quarter.
With Lehigh ahead 11-9 in the fourth quarter, Timothy Shanahan scored three straight goals, finishing with six on the game, to give the Terriers a 12-11 lead late in the period.
Colin French responded with two straight goals, including one that gave Lehigh a 13-12 lead with 16 seconds left in regulation. Shanahan answered for Boston University, scoring with three seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
On the first possession of overtime, Tyler Fox scored the game-winning goal for Boston University, giving the Terriers a 14-13 victory.
