Lehigh Defeats Villanova 14-7 on St. Patrick’s Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh defeated Villanova 14-7 on Tuesday evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex. With the win, the Mountain Hawks improved to 4-4 overall and remained 1-2 in Patriot League play. Villanova dropped its third straight contest and fell to 3-5 on the season.
First-year Finn Morgan powered the Mountain Hawks' offense, accounting for six of Lehigh's 14 goals with five scores and an assist. Luke Breslin added a hat trick, marking his second game this season with three or more goals.
Kasey Heath and Bryce Pang split time in net for the Mountain Hawks, combining to stop 72% of the shots they faced. Heath made 11 saves, while Pang added four.
Connor Riley delivered a strong performance at the faceoff X for the Mountain Hawks, winning 11 of 15 draws while collecting six ground balls and adding a goal.
Luke Winkler, Breslin and Morgan each found the back of the net in the opening four minutes as Lehigh raced out to a 3-0 lead with 11:50 remaining in the first period. After a Villanova goal, Morgan struck again and Riley added another to push the Mountain Hawks in front 5-2 midway through the quarter. Each team added a goal before the end of the period, giving Lehigh a 6-2 lead after one.
Both teams tightened up defensively in the second period, with each side scoring just once. Hunter Polonkey found the back of the net for the Mountain Hawks, helping Lehigh maintain a four-goal lead heading into the locker room, 7-3.
Lehigh broke the game open in the third period, outscoring Villanova 4-1 to put the game out of reach. Morgan scored twice in the quarter, while Breslin added a goal and an assist. Colin French and Grant Rodney also found the back of the net in the period.
Breslin and Morgan each added a goal in the final period to keep Villanova at arm's length, sealing Lehigh's 14-7 victory on St. Patrick's Day.
