Overtime Goal Deciding Factor In Lehigh’s 11-10 Loss To Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team fell 11-10 to Lafayette in double overtime on Wednesday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex, in the Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute.
Lafayette jumped out on an early 2-0 lead before senior Olivia Memeger netted her first of the game as the Leopards led 2-1 heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter swung in favor of the Leopards, as Lafayette went on a 3-2 run taking a 5-3 lead with 3:49 left in the half. Lehigh responded with three goals, spurred by two goals from Emma Eberhardt as the Mountain Hawks led 6-5 at intermission.
Lehigh opened the second half with a goal from Gabby Schneider, giving the Mountain Hawks 7-5 lead with 11:54 on the clock. Lafayette responded with two goals to tie it up before Cassie Marte capitalized on a shot off an assist from Schneider, giving Lehigh an 8-7 lead for the remainder of the third quarter.
At 7:32 in the fourth, Lafayette netted the equalizer before taking a 9-8 lead about a minute later. Eberhardt scored her fourth goal of the game tying it at 9-9 with 4:13 remaining in regulation.
Eberhardt followed with a fifth goal as Lehigh led 10-9 with 2:12 on the clock. Lafayette tied it up at just over one minute as the teams headed into overtime tied 10-10.
The first overtime remained scoreless as it remained tied 10-10 heading into double overtime. Lafayette goalkeeper Lexi Coldiron came up with a big save in the first three minutes of double overtime, thwarting an attempt from Eberhardt.
At 2:21 left in double overtime, Lafayette's Sophia Spallone scored the game-winner as the Leopards won 11-10.
Goalkeeper Hayley Hunt recorded 11 saves and four ground balls. Coldiron also made 11 saves and had team-highs in caused turnovers (4) and ground balls (4).
Lafayette won the draw controls battle with a slim 14-13 margin, as Emma Fiore led the way with six for Lehigh. Kristin Igneri led the Leopards with four points off three goals and one assist.
Lehigh (7-8, 3-6 PL) waits for the results from tomorrow's games across the league to determine its fate in the Patriot League Tournament. Wins by Loyola over Bucknell and Navy over American would get the Mountain Hawks in as the No. 6 seed. Quarterfinal play is slated for Sunday.
