Colgate Picks Up 15-14 Win Over The Mountain Hawks

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Despite two five goal performances from both Gabby Schneider and Olivia Memeger, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team was edged by Colgate 15-14 on Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders took an early 3-0 lead before Emmie Ridgeway netted her third goal of the season as Lehigh trailed 3-1 with 8:52 left in the opening period. Lehigh responded with back-to-back goals from Schneider and Cassie Marte to tie the game 3-3, before Memeger gave the Mountain Hawks a 4-3 lead with under five minutes remaining in the quarter.Â

Colgate tied it up but Memeger struck again to give Lehigh a 5-4 lead. The Raiders capitalized on one more opportunity as the teams went into the second quarter tied 5-5.

The Raiders scored two goals to open the second quarter, taking a 7-5 lead with 6:07 left in the first half. First-year Molly Snow responded with her lone goal of the afternoon, spurring a 3-0 run for Lehigh as Emma Eberhardt and Schneider both contributed one goal apiece to give Lehigh an 8-7 advantage with 3:34 on the clock.

Colgate took advantage of a Lehigh turnover, netting the next goal of the contest to tie the game at 8-8. The Raiders had the final goal of the half, carrying a 9-8 lead into intermission.

The second half opened with two Colgate goals, extending the Raiders' lead to 11-9 with 12:13 left in the third quarter.Â

Lehigh regained momentum, going on a dominant 5-0 run to close out the third quarter. Schneider had three goals in the run while Memeger added two, giving Lehigh a 13-11 advantage heading into the final quarter.

At 14:24 in the fourth, Colgate decreased the Lehigh lead to 13-12. The goal spurred a 3-0 run for the Raiders as they regained the lead 14-13 with under four minutes to play.

With 22 seconds left, Schneider claimed her fifth goal of the day off an assist from Emma Fiore to tie the game at 14-14. Colgate won the draw, taking the ball down to the net as Lucy Licata scoring the game-winner with six seconds left off an assist from Kyra Lucey, securing the 15-14 win over Lehigh. Licata record two goals in the game and Lucey led the Raiders with four goals and four assists.

Marte recorded one goal, nine draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover on the afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Hayley Hunt made 10 saves and led Lehigh in caused turnovers (2) and ground balls (3).

Lehigh (7-7, 3-5 PL) closes out the regular season with The Rivalry with Lafayette presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
