
Lehigh Downs Holy Cross 4-0 in Patriot League Opener

WORCESTER, Mass. - Lehigh women's tennis had a perfect start to Patriot League play Tuesday afternoon, defeating Holy Cross 4-0. With the win, the Mountain Hawks improved to 10-3 on the season. Lehigh's 10 wins marks the first time the Mountain Hawks recorded double-figure wins since the 2017-18 season when they finished 11-10.Â
It was Lehigh's strong doubles play once again that got the Mountain Hawks off to a good start, sweeping all three matches after only giving up two games. Allyce Gaborik and Maggie Forkner won on the No. 1 court 6-1, Anushkha and Megha Dania won on the No. 2 court 6-1, and Hamsa Javagal and Audrey Harrington pulled out a perfect 6-0 victory on the No. 3 court.Â
Megha Dania picked up the first singles point for Lehigh at the No. 4 spot, recording a victory in just 41 minutes after besting Caroline Fredey 6-1, 6-0.Â
Anushka Dania was perfect in the first set, winning 6-0 before pulling out a victory with a 6-2 win in the final set. Â
Forkner also gave up just one point at the No. 2 singles spot, defeating Ashley Zilora 6-0, 6-1. Forkner's win also clinched the victory for Lehigh after both teams played to clinch.Â
Javagal found herself down 2–0 in the first set before coming back to secure a 7-5 victory in the first set. She did not get to finish her match and was tied 1-1 with Ahana Nagarkatti before the match ended.Â
Hannah Lezter didn't get to finish her match. Letzer lost the first set 6-1 and was losing the next set 2-1 to Maddie Hamm. Allyce Gaborik also didn't finish her match. She lost the first set 6-4 and was losing 3-1 to Lindsay Riordan.Â
The Mountain Hawks will look to make it three wins in a row when they take on Navy on March 23 at 11 a.m. in Annapolis.Â
