Lehigh Walked-Off By Charleston Southern In Series Finale

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Lehigh and Charleston Southern met at Nielsen Field one last time on Sunday afternoon to conclude the weekend's three-game series. The Mountain Hawks entered the ninth inning tied at 6-6, but a wild pitch allowed the Bucs to walk it off in the final frame.
Sophomore Tommy Lamar was credited with the loss after conceding two runs to the Bucs in eighth inning. Earning the win was CSU's Dylan Matsuoka, who allowed no hits through three innings while striking out two in a relief role for the Bucs.
Teddy Tolliver started on the mound for the Mountain Hawks, allowing four runs over 4.2 innings pitched. He squared off against Matt Galiant, who allowed three hits and three earned runs over 2.0 innings pitched.
Lehigh began the game in scoring position, as singles from Rafe Perich and Justin Butler combined with an Andrew Kohl walk loaded the bases for the Mountain Hawks. With two outs already on the board, Galiant struck out the next batter to escape an early jam. Tolliver made quick work of CSU in the bottom of the inning, retiring them 1-2-3 to end the first with no score.
The Mountain Hawks once again loaded the bases in the second inning, but this time they were able to generate runs. Lehigh brought three runs across the plate courtesy of two fielder's choice plays. A Peter Werth RBI single added a run for the Bucs in the bottom of the inning to set the score at 3-1 after two.
Lehigh's lead would be short lived, as the Bucs tacked on three runs the very next inning by way of an Alex Urlaub 2RBI single and a Christian Bauman sac-fly. A scoreless fourth inning made way for Lehigh to regain the lead in the fourth. The Mountain Hawks put three runs on the board from a Kohl two-run homer an unearned run scored off of a wild pitch. Lehigh now held a 6-4 lead halfway through the game.
The score remained in favor of the Mountain Hawks until an Aidan McAskie two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth tied the game at six apiece. Matsuoka retired Lehigh in order in the top of the ninth to give the Bucs a chance to walk it off. CSU got their first two batters aboard, which sent Rafe Perich to the mound to try and extend the game. After loading the bases, a Perich wild pitch allowed Urlaub to cross home plate and win the series for the Bucs.
Whitlinger and Young each went 2-5 on the day while Kohl, Perich and Ryan Cochran batted runs in for Lehigh. Also recording hits on the day were Justin Butler and Andrew Nole.
The Mountain Hawks will next face the Delaware Blue Hens on Tuesday, February 27 in Newark. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
