Shuey’s Late Goal Leads to Draw at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Graduate student Ryelle Shuey scored the game-tying goal at 80:33, as Lehigh tied Villanova 1-1 on Sunday afternoon.
"Today was a battle and our team demonstrated resiliency and grit," said head coach Lauren Calabrese. "To equalize the game was a massive step in our growth as a team."
Calabrese decided upon the same starting 11 from Friday's 1-0 win over Monmouth. Freshman Mia Tuckwood and Macy McCallum earned the second nod of their young careers.
The Wildcats struck first at 39:26 when Alex Little netted a shot in the bottom left of the goal. Lehigh trailed by one heading into halftime.
Sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Ousouljoglou started the second half in net, as momentum favored Villanova with the Wildcats recording 14 shots to Lehigh's seven.
Shuey erased the deficit in the 81st minute off an assist from senior Emma Roesing. The equalizer marks the fifth-year's first goal of the season and eighth career-goal.
Freshman forward Aminah Baruwa led Lehigh in shots, recording four with one on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Violette Bonvallet got the starting nod today, allowing one goal and making no saves. Ousouljoglou recorded three saves in her 45 minutes on the pitch. Villanova's goalkeeper Payton Woodward made four saves and let in one goal.
The Mountain Hawks host Saint Joseph's in the 2023 home opener at Ulrich Sports Complex on Thursday at noon.
