WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Abby-Lee Sanogo scored her first career goal and was part of a defensive effort that led Lehigh to its first clean sheet of the season as the Mountain Hawks picked up a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Holy Cross Saturday at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium.
Sanogo collected a rebound off the goal post following a corner kick by senior Rylie Moschella and slotted a shot home for the only goal of the contest in the 50th minute.
Lehigh's defense took care of the rest, keeping the Crusaders off the scoresheet. Holy Cross out-shot Lehigh 23-9 on the day and had a 3-1 edge in corners, but the Mountain Hawks scored off their lone corner opportunity to net their first Patriot League victory.
The Mountain Hawks are now 3-8-3 overall and 1-5-1 in Patriot League play. Holy Cross is not 5-7-4 overall and 2-3-2 in the league. Lehigh sits four points behind Holy Cross for the sixth and final spot in the Patriot League Tournament with two league games remaining.
Holy Cross had a 9-4 advantage in shots through the first 45 minutes and took 14 shots in the second half.
Junior R'Reeyah Mabry-Francis made three saves, including a diving stop at the near post to deny Karenna Beckstein in the 87th minute.
First-year Savannah Conner had four of Lehigh's nine shots and two of its four shots on goal.
Aubrey Haesche made three saves for Holy Cross.
The Mountain Hawks will visit Princeton Tuesday at 8 p.m. in their non-league finale and will resume league play next Saturday when they host first-place Boston University at 1 p.m.
