Klebe Wins Gold in 800m as Mountain Hawks Finish 5th as Hosts of the Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa.  — The Lehigh women's track and field team finished fifth in the 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the Mountain Hawks at the Goodman Track and Field Complex Friday.

Navy was crowned the Patriot League Champions while collecting 241.5 points while Boston University finished second with 150 points and Army West Point third with 143 points. Bucknell ended the meet in fourth with 119.5 points with Lehigh totaling 103.5 points for fifth and Holy Cross in sixth with 50 points. Colgate (18), Lafayette (16.5) and Loyola (Md.) (14) were within four points of each other as American finished with two points to conclude the championship meet.

Mid-Distance/Distance
First-year Abby Klebe captured Patriot League gold in the 800m when she broke the school record with a time of 2:08.28. Sophomore Lauryn Heskin finished in seventh and earned two points for the Mountain Hawks with her time of 2:13.45.

Three Mountain Hawks recorded points in the 1,500m event with senior Elena Perez-Segnini earning second place with a time of 4:27.00 for eight points. Junior Christina Yakaboski turned in a time of 4:31.50 which was good for fourth place and five points while first-year Lucy Afanasewicz placed seventh after running 4:33.84 and recorded two points.

Sophomore Savanah Beavers earned a fourth-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase to capture five points with a time of 10:43.73 while junior Lindsay MacLellan finished eighth in a time of 10:53.10 to earn a point. Senior Andrea Miller finished two spots out of scoring, crossing the finish line at 11:13.12 for 10th place.

In the 5,000m race, Yakaboski took home seventh and two points with a time of 17:03.57.

Sprints
Junior Ashley Struck finished fourth in the 400m dash with a mark of 55.51 seconds Struck then had a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 24.75 seconds.

Seniors Ashley Griesmeyer and Chae Kim were both in the 100m hurdles, with Griesmeyer finishing in 14.68 seconds for fourth and Kim captured sixth with a time of 14.91 seconds. In the 400m hurdles, first-year Amber Barrios completed the race in 1:05.38 for seventh place.

The 4x100m relay squad of Stephanie Webb, Gianna Mangili, Grace Kennedy and Lillian Mauger finished sixth in the race with a time of 48.26 for three points. A fourth-place finish for the quartet of Mauger, Simone Davey, Svea Wickelgren and Struck earned Lehigh five points in the 4x400m squad, completing the relay event in 3:49.90.

Jumps
Senior Calista Marzolino and sophomore Izabel Fronc were in a three-way tie for seventh in the high jump with allowed each of them to record a point by clearing 1.63m.

A pair of Mountain Hawks scored in the triple jump as junior Nina Cialone finished fourth at a distance of 12.14m while sophomore Casey Talamini-Kelemen placed sixth with a mark of 12.10m.
Throws
First-year Grace Aggen was the top Mountain Hawk finisher in the shot put and the discus, finishing 11th with a mark of 12.25m in the shot put while finishing 14th in the discus with a heave of 41.23m. Senior Emma Harrington finished two spots behind Aggen in the discus with her mark of 39.77m.
Lehigh had five members named to the Patriot League First Team: Simone Davey (4x800m), Lauryn Heskin (4x800m), Abby Klebe (800m, 4x800m), Laura Reigle (Pole Vault), Svea Wickelgren (4x800m) while Elena Perez-Segnini (1,500m) was named to the Patriot League Second Team.

The Mountain Hawks' will prepare for the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which are scheduled from May 12-14 at George Mason.
