Mountain Hawks Fall to Army West Point in Patriot League Quarterfinals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lehigh's 2023 season came to an end Friday with a 4-0 loss to host and No. 3 seed Army West Point in the Patriot League quarterfinals at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights won the top two doubles flights and three singles matches to earn a spot in Saturday's semifinals against either Navy or Loyola.

Army dropped just one game in claiming the top two doubles flights to take a 1-0 lead. Lehigh's No. 3 team of sophomore Hamsa Javagal and first-year Bella Peters were down 3-2 when the doubles point was clinched.

In singles play, Army claimed wins at No. 6, No. 3 and then No. 4 to close out the 4-0 victory. Javagal claimed the first set from Cooper Jackson at the top flight when the match ended.

At No. 6, Paige Herremans won 6-1, 6-1 over first-year Helena Cilella. The Black Knights went up 3-0 when Jenna Sabile won 6-0, 6-1 over sophomore Allyce Gaborik at No. 3. Army clinched the match at No. 4 as Emma Sy beat senior Junmoke James 6-0, 6-1, avenging a loss to James last weekend in Bethlehem.

Lehigh's season ends at 6-11. The Mountain Hawks will lose just one senior, James, to graduation.
