BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Lehigh women's tennis came up short in a 4–2 loss to Army on Friday at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
"Credit to Army—they're a high-level team and earned the win today," said head coach Sophia Geier."That said, I was really proud of the way we competed in singles. Every player had chances on their court, and once the match started unfolding, you could see everyone problem-solving and adjusting, trying to find a way. That kind of resilience is something we can build on. It just wasn't quite enough today, but we'll learn from it and keep pushing forward."
Army opened the match by winning two of the three doubles matches to secure the first point.
The Black Knights then extended their lead to 2–0 by taking the first singles match. Lehigh's Maggie Forkner responded at the No. 1 singles spot, battling back after dropping the first set against Cooper Jackson 6–3 to win the next two sets 6–4, 6–4 and put the Mountain Hawks on the board.
Army took the next singles point before Lehigh's Hamsa Javagal picked up a hard-fought win at No. 2 singles over Jenna Sabile. Javagal won the opening set 6–2, dropped the second 6–4, and bounced back to claim the third set 6–2.
Army clinched the match with a win at No. 6 singles, where Allyce Gaborik fell 6–3, 6–1.
Up next, Lehigh will host Holy Cross on Sunday at 9 a.m. for Senior Day.
