Lehigh to Open Eight-Game Homestand with Three-Game Series versus Navy

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball squad (19-23, 6-12 Patriot League) will remain home for the rest of the regular season, kicking off an eight-game homestand by welcoming Navy (20-22, 12-10 Patriot League) to J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park for a three-game series. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin Saturday, April 29 at 12 p.m. with game two set to follow. The series finale is set for 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 30. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Mountain Hawks (19-23, 6-12 PL) are coming off a midweek road matchup against Towson, where they suffered a 10-2 loss to the Tigers. Sophomore left-hander Najir Glenn started the game and went 3.2 innings with eight strikeouts and four runs on three hits and three walks. Lehigh had five other pitchers see action in the non-league contest with first-years Shane O'Neill and David Andolina and sophomore Rafe Perich recording scoreless outings. Seven different Mountain Hawks accounted for the seven hits in the game with junior Riley Davis and Perich plating the two Lehigh runs. Junior Tyler Young and sophomore Andrew Kohl both scored a run for the Brown and White while Young and four others drew walks in the game.
Fifth-year Casey Rother, a Patriot League honorable mention this past week, leads the Mountain Hawks in multiple statistical categories, including a .345 batting average, 57 hits, 16 doubles, 15 home runs (School record) and 61 RBIs (Tied for 1st in school history). Perich, Young and Kohl are also hitting over .300 for Lehigh, with Perich tied for the team-high in doubles (16) while producing 54 hits, five homers and 42 RBIs. First-year Dom Patrizi and junior Andrew Nole are also hitting above .350, with Patrizi collecting 30 hits with five doubles and 13 RBIs with Nole producing 35 hits with eight doubles and two homers for 18 RBIs.

Fifth-year Luke Rettig is one of two Mountain Hawk pitchers to have thrown at least 41 innings. Rettig has tossed 44.1 innings this season and has a 5-3 record in 10 starts with an ERA of 3.86 and 51 strikeouts this season. He sits second all-time with 258 career strikeouts, now just five away from moving into first in program history while sitting in the top five in school history in innings pitched and career wins. Sophomore Alex Bouchard has thrown 41 innings, with 33 strikeouts in 10 starts and 12 appearances with a 3-1 record. Junior Teddy Tolliver has thrown 34.1 innings with 29 strikeouts in nine starts and 10 appearances while Christian, a Patriot League honorable mention has made 11 appearances with four starts with a 2-2 record in 27 innings of work. Senior Will Grisack has made the most appearances on the mound this season with 19 and has tossed 26.1 innings with 25 strikeouts.
Navy is entering the three-game series on a five-game losing streak. The Midshipmen fell to Maryland Eastern Shore 9-7 in 12 innings on Wednesday evening after getting swept last weekend by Army West Point, 11-4, 3-2 and 10-0.
Three Midshipmen have a batting average of .300 or higher, led by Alex Smith, who is hitting .320 on the year with a team-high 49 hits to go with 11 doubles, three home runs, 27 runs scored and 21 RBIs. Logan Keller and Kyle Rausch are also at or above the .300 mark, with Keller hitting at a clip of .301 wile leading the team with 12 doubles and 29 RBIs while Rausch is hitting .300 with six doubles and a team-leading four homers with 28 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
The Midshipmen have two pitchers that have tossed 40 or more innings, with Nate Mitchell throwing 56.1 innings of work with 45 strikeouts, three complete games and a 6-3 record in 10 starts. Matthew Shirah has delivered 43.1 innings with a team-high 48 strikeouts in nine starts with a 3-4 record. Both Mitchell and Shirah both have ERAs under 4.00, with Mitch's ERA at 3.51 while Shirah has a 3.95 ERA. Thomas Russell is 4-4 in seven starts and has made nine appearances for 39 innings pitched and has struck out 43 batters.

Navy leads the overall series 94-52, including Navy sweeping the doubleheader from Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium back on March 25, 15-1 in game one and 3-2 in game two. Last season, the Midshipmen won the season series, 3-2. The Mountain Hawks' split the doubleheader at J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park before Navy claimed two of the three games in Annapolis.
