Mountain Hawks Edge Villanova 4-3 For Sunday Home Win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In a match that came down to a third set at the No. 6 singles flight, Lehigh defeated Villanova 4-3 Sunday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. First-year Wyeth Anzilotti claimed the match-clinching win over Justin Suarez to help Lehigh improve to 9-7 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks swept through doubles and needed Anzilotti's win to earn the necessary singles split.

In doubles, Lehigh's No. 3 team of senior Michael Bukhalo and sophomore Luke Donovan won 7-5 over Ryan Nguyen and Justin Suarez. The No. 2 team of senior Matt Kleiman and sophomore Marc Blekhman clinched the doubles point winning a tiebreak over Cooper Gordon and Joshua Robinson. Lehigh's top team of senior Jeremy Learner and junior Jordan Paul made it a sweep with a 6-3 win over Tighe Brunetti and Michael Fourticq.

Robinson earned a straight-set win over Kleiman at the top singles flight to tie the match at 1-1. First-year Jackson Morash moved up to No. 4 and picked up a win over Fourticq in straight sets, while Brunetti won in three sets over Blekhman at No. 2.

Learner won a three-set match over Gordon at No. 3 but Villanova tied the match at 3-3 as Nguyen won 6-3, 7-5 over Paul at No. 5.

Anzilotti won his first set against Suarez at No. 6, 6-3 but dropped the second 5-7. He claimed another 6-3 win in the third set to clinch the match for the Mountain Hawks.

Lehigh will head to West Point, N.Y. for two matches next weekend as the Mountain Hawks will face Army Friday at 2 p.m. and Boston University Saturday at noon.
