No. 25 Navy Pulls Away From Mountain Hawks In Second Half

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh seniors Gabby Schneider and Emma Eberhardt both tallied two first-half goals but No. 25 Navy built an 8-4 halftime lead and kept the Mountain Hawks off the board in the second half as the Midshipmen came away with a 15-4 victory on a rainy Saturday at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
The visiting Mids out-shot the Mountain Hawks 36-21 and capitalized on 21 Lehigh turnovers on the afternoon. Lehigh falls to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League while Navy improves to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Schneider opened the scoring 55 seconds into the contest before Navy scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. Eberhardt scored with 1:40 left in the opening quarter to bring Lehigh within 3-2, but Navy's Tori DiCarlo scored in the final minute to give the Mids a 4-2 lead after one period.
Navy's Leelee Denton opened the second quarter with the second of her game-high four goals before Schneider answered with her second for the Mountain Hawks. Eberhardt netted her second on a feed from junior Olivia Memeger with 9:22 to go in the first half to bring Lehigh within 7-4.
Lola Leone completed a hat-trick late in the first half to put Navy up 8-4 at halftime. Her goal started an 8-0 run to end the game for the Mids, who kept Lehigh off the scoreboard for the game's final 39:22.
DiCarlo and Ava Yovino added hat-tricks for Navy with Yovino adding three assists for a game-high six points.
Lehigh held a 12-10 advantage in draw controls, with senior Cassie Marte leading the way with seven. Marte, graduate student Claire Keller and sophomore Lauren Warfield all had two caused turnovers to lead the Mountain Hawks. Eberhardt and junior goalie Hayley Hunt both had three groundballs.
For Navy, Alyssa Daley had four draw controls, while Yovino was one of three Mids to cause two turnovers.
Hunt made nine saves in three quarters of action for Lehigh, while sophomore Julia DeLitta and senior Maggie Roberts combined for three saves in the fourth quarter.
Emma Richardell made 11 saves for Navy.
The Mountain Hawks are back home Wednesday night to host No. 13 Army West Point at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
