DiConza, Hunt Garner Patriot League Awards After Rivalry Win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a 15-3 win against rival Lafayette in the league opener for both teams, two members of the Lehigh women's lacrosse team garnered Patriot League weekly awards Monday. Junior Hayley Hunt was recognized as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week and sophomore Julia DiConza was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Both Hunt and DiConza played major roles in a strong defensive effort that limited Lafayette to just three goals as Lehigh won its sixth straight game overall and ninth straight against the Leopards.
DiConza had a caused turnover and scooped up two groundballs as Lehigh limited Lafayette to its lowest scoring output of the season. Lehigh's defense caused 14 of Lafayette's 20 turnovers and the Mountain Hawks limited the Leopards to just 11-of-19 in the clearing game.
For the season, DiConza has started all seven games on defense and has seven caused turnovers and six groundballs. Defensively, the Mountain Hawks are allowing just 7.29 goals per game.
Hunt was credited with six saves in her 54-plus minutes of action Saturday. She also caused a turnover and scooped up three groundballs.
The Patriot League's Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, Hunt currently owns a 7.91 goals against average and a .511 save percentage with 48 saves in seven games this season.
Defensively, the Mountain Hawks blanked the Leopards in two of the four quarters in Saturday's game. The three goals allowed were the fewest by Lehigh in a rivalry game since the Brown and White yielded three in a 5-3 victory in 1980.
Lehigh has won its last six games and has held its opponents to single digit goals in five of those six wins, including three opponents held to five goals or fewer.
On the attacking end of the field, junior Olivia Memeger earned honorable mention recognition after posting a game-high six points with three first-half goals and three assists.
The Mountain Hawks will conclude their four-game road trip on Saturday with a visit to No. 9 Loyola. Opening draw is set for noon from Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore.
