Lehigh Pulls Out 11-9 Road Win Wednesday at La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – Homestanding La Salle erased an 8-5 halftime deficit by scoring the first three goals of the second half, but the Lehigh women's lacrosse team responded by scoring three of the game's final four goals to claim their fourth straight victory 11-9 Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.

Senior Emma Eberhardt led the offense with four goals and senior Cassie Marte paced the defense with four caused turnovers and five groundballs as Lehigh improves to 4-1 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks led 3-1 after one quarter behind a goal from senior Katia Carnevale and two from Eberhardt. La Salle (0-4) tied the game at 4-4 in the second quarter before Lehigh scored the next four goals, with Eberhardt, Carnevale, junior Olivia Memeger and Marte finding the back of the cage. A goal by the Explorers' Alana Lathan left Lehigh up 8-5 at halftime.

A goal by Claudia Steinmetz with 10:29 to play in the third quarter capped a 4-0 La Salle run and tied the game at 8-8. A minute later, Eberhardt notched her fourth goal of the game, with an assist from Marte, to put Lehigh in front for good. Senior Gabby Schneider scored Lehigh's final two goals, before La Salle pulled one back with 98 seconds remaining.

Schneider finished with three goals, while Carnevale added two goals and an assist for the Mountain Hawks. Eberhardt had eight of Lehigh's 11 draw controls with Marte adding two. Eberhardt matched Marte with five groundballs.

Steinmetz and Lathan led La Salle with two goals apiece.

Lehigh held a 40-21 advantage in shots and a 28-19 edge in ground balls. La Salle turned the ball over 18 times, 12 of which were caused by the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh turned the ball over just nine times. Draw controls favored the hosts by a 12-11 margin.

Junior Hayley Hunt made nine saves for Lehigh, while Julia Dellaratta stopped 17 shots for La Salle.

The Mountain Hawks will the continue their road swing on Saturday when they visit Wagner. Opening draw is set for noon from Staten Island, N.Y.
