Two Mountain Hawks Capture School Records on Final Day of Patriots

LEWISBURG, Pa.-Â On the final day of the Patriot League Championships, the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team continued to break records and score plenty of points Saturday night in Lewisburg at the Kinney Natatorium.Â
"It was an incredibly fast Patriots," said head coach Rob Herb. "I've experienced a few Patriot League Championships, and this one by far, had some of the most incredible leadership, and obviously some of the most amazing races."
Senior Sarah Hardy broke another school record for the Patriots and earned her second silver medal in the 200-yard butterfly. Hardy tied with Navy's Caroline Irwin for a time of 1:59.23, which also qualified her for an NCAA B-Cut qualifying mark. The tie brought home 16.5 points for Lehigh.Â
Hardy wasn't the only Lehigh swimmer to pick up points in the 200-yard butterfly. Natalie Martin came in sixth (2:01.04) and Julia Stevens followed Martin in seventh (2:021.33).
In the 1650-yard freestyle ,the Mountain Hawks finished in sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth. Mairin Ludwig came in sixth with a time of 17:06.21. Mikalic came in seventh (17:091.91), Martin came in eighth (17:09.09) and Donaldson rounded out the mile with a time of 17:10.67. The four of those swimmers combined for a total of 45 points.Â
In the 200-yard backstroke, Willa Werwaiss broke a school record and picked up 14 points after a fifth-place finish (1:58.75) and senior Hallie Wilson won the consolation finals with a time of 2:01.09. Wilson's ninth place finish tallied nine points for Lehigh.Â
Noel Fresa came in eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (50.93). Sarah Manthrop came in 16th in the 100-yard freestyle.
Caitlin Hofmann and Kelsey Thompson both scored in the 200-yard breaststroke. Hofmann came in 14th (2:21:21) and Kelsey Thompson came in 15th (2:22.82)
The last individual event of Patriots would be the women's three-meter dive.Sarah Gill picked up more points for Lehigh after scoring 229.95 points. Gill's score put her in 15th place to pick up two points for Lehigh.Â
The last event of the 2023 championships was the 400-yard relay. Fresa led the way while Werwaiss, Manthorp and Stevens all followed. They finished in sixth (3:26.16).Â
This is the second straight year that Lehigh finished in fifth at Patriots. They were less than five points away from beating Boston University, who finished in fourth. Navy won the Patriot League Championships with 799 points.Â
