
Lehigh Picks Up 4-3 Win Over Howard

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's tennis team closed out the weekend with its first win of the season in a 4-3 win over Howard on Sunday afternoon inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.Â
The Mountain Hawks battled with the Bison during doubles but were unable to clinch the doubles point and take the early 1-0 lead.Â
Howard picked up the first singles win of the day but Lehigh showed no signs of backing down. Sophomore Hamsa Javagal secured a point for the Mountain Hawks, defeating Jordan Grayson 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot.Â
The Bison picked up their second win during singles play to extend their lead to 3-1. Lehigh went on to win the next three singles matches to secure its first victory of the season. Sophomore Allyce Gaborik was able to get the Mountain Hawks within one with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot.Â
First-year Helena Cilella earned a win at the No. 6 spot, defeating Howard's Alexandra Blackwell 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot. With the score tied at 3-3, both teams battled to secure their first win of the season.Â
Junior Anushka Dania shined for the Mountain Hawks at the No. 5 spot, defeating Yemisi Ifederu 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the win for Lehigh.Â
The Mountain Hawks will take a week off to recover before hosting Siena inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center on Feb. 25. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.Â
