BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball is less than two months away from the start of the 2024 season, and the Mountain Hawks are primed to once again compete for the Patriot League Championship. Now entering his 29th season at the helm of the program, Peter E. Bennett '63 Head Baseball Coach Sean Leary announced Lehigh baseball's 2024 schedule on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mountain Hawks will play 17 games at J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park while the team will be the visiting team in 29 contests this season. In addition, Lehigh will play in three neutral site games to kick-off the 2024 campaign, setting their regular season schedule at a total of 49 games.
Lehigh's season opener will be at the Swig & Swine College Classic at Shipyard Park in Charleston, South Carolina. The Mountain Hawks will play three neutral site games during their stay in the Palmetto State, those being against Ball State on February 16, Michigan State on February 17 and Iowa on February 18.
After the Swig & Swine, the Mountain Hawks will stay in Charleston to take on Charleston Southern in a three-game series from February 23-25. Following the series, Lehigh will round out its slate of February games with a tilt on the road against Delaware on the 27th.
The team will play in two more three-game series before playing their first games of the season on their home field. The Mountain Hawks travel to Charlotte, N.C. for a series against Queens from March 1-3 followed by three games against Mount St. Mary's from March 8-10.
Lehigh's home-opener is slated for Tuesday, March 12 when the Mountain Hawks host Saint Joseph's. Coppin State will travel to Bethlehem for a game the following day before Lehigh and Saint Peter's play a split-location four-game series that weekend. Lehigh will host the Peacocks on March 15, travel to New Jersey for a doubleheader on March 16 and then return to J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park for the final game of the series on March 17.
The next week, Lehigh travels south to Philadelphia to take on Penn on March 20. Later that week, Lehigh and Lafayette will renew the Rivalry, embarking on a four-game series between March 22-24 in Easton in a series that also marks the start of Patriot League play for the Mountain Hawks.
Lehigh will once again compete in the Liberty Bell Classic, a tournament amongst Philadelphia-area Division-I schools in which the championship game is played at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies. The Mountain Hawks play host to Delaware State on March 26 for the first round of the tournament. Should Lehigh win, they would face either Rider or Villanova in the second round on April 2.
Following their first-round tilt against Delaware State, Lehigh hosts a three-game series against Army West Point on March 30-31. After the potential Liberty Bell Classic second round matchup, the Mountain Hawks host Navy for a doubleheader on April 6 followed by a doubleheader against Bucknell on April 7.
Next up on Lehigh's slate is a matchup against the Nittany Lions of Penn State in State College on April 10 and a three-game series at Bucknell on April 13-14. The next Wednesday, April 17 will act as the final regular-season meeting of the year between Lehigh and Lafayette, and it is set to take place right here in Bethlehem.
Lehigh then plays their fourth, fifth and sixth games of the season against Navy in a three-game away stand on April 20-21. Following this, the Mountain Hawks will have the opportunity to host four games in a row on their own field, hosting three games against Holy Cross from April 26-28 and a matchup against Wagner on May 1.
Finally, Lehigh will play four games in two days to round out their regular season schedule. The Mountain Hawks head to West Point, N.Y. for a doubleheader against Army on May 4 followed by a doubleheader at Holy Cross on May 5.
The Patriot League Championship semifinals are scheduled to take place between May 11-12, which will consist of two separate three-game series between the top four teams in the league. The championship final will take place the following week.
Lehigh baseball enters the 2024 season off the heels of a season that saw them lead the Patriot League in batting average at a mark of .298. The Mountain Hawks return 31 players from last year's squad, including 2023 Second Team All-Patriot League selection Dom Patrizi. He joins teammates Tyler Young, Andrew Kohl, Rafe Perich and Andrew Nole as returners who batted .300 or higher last season. In addition, 11 first-year players join the fold to round out Lehigh's 2024 roster.
