Game of Runs Sees Colgate Top Lehigh in Regular Season Finale, 10-9

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate jumped out to an early 5-0 lead less than seven minutes in, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team responded with eight of the next nine goals to take an 8-6 lead, but the Raiders ended the game on a 3-0 run to defeat the Mountain Hawks, 10-9 on Thursday. With the win, Colgate earns the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League standings and will host fifth-seeded Lehigh in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.

Thursday marked the Mountain Hawks' first loss of the month, snapping a five-game winning streak. Lehigh junior attackers Emma Eberhardt (three goals, one assist), Gabby Schneider (two goals, three assists) and Katia Carnevale (one goal, two assists) combined for six goals and six assists. With Schneider's three assists, she moved into sole possession of second place in program history with 88 in her career (passing Courtney Henig, who tallied 87 in her career). Senior Nora Giordano scored twice, while first year Angelina Pino scored a goal as well.

Senior Emma McGillis led the defense with three groundballs and two caused turnovers Eberhardt had five draw controls, while junior Cassie Marte tallied four.

After the early 5-0 deficit, the Mountain Hawks outscored the Raiders 4-0 over the final 23:26 of the first half. Eberhardt put home her first of the day at 4:58 of the second quarter to round out the scoring and pull Lehigh within 5-4 at the half.

Colgate finished with a 31-23 edge in shots and 12-11 advantage in draw controls. Final groundballs were even at 15 apiece. Sophomore Hayley Hunt made eight saves across the Raiders' Olivia Lynch, who finished with nine.

The Mountain Hawks now look ahead to their eighth straight Patriot League Tournament with the quarterfinals at Colgate Sunday. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.

The Mountain Hawks came out of halftime on fire, scoring four of the first five goals of the stanza – all within the first 4:21 – to open an 8-6 lead after a Pino goal. Less than two minutes prior, Giordano finished a highlight-reel backhand goal to give Lehigh its first lead at 6-5.What a response. Eberhardt scored her third of the day less than a minute into the fourth quarter to put Lehigh up 9-7 with 14:12 remaining. From that point forward, though, Colgate took control. The Raiders scored twice within a minute – at 7:10 and 6:13 – to pull even at nine. They then netted the game-winner with 5:08 remaining, which proved to be the game-winner.All in one motion.
