Lehigh Responds From Tough First Quarter, but Falls to No. 7 Loyola, 15-7
3/19/2022 7:30:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After No. 7 Loyola jumped out to a 9-0 lead early in the second quarter, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team put forth an impressive response, scoring seven of the game's final 13 goals, but it wasn't enough in a 15-7 defeat on Saturday in a rematch of last season's Patriot League Championship Game. Junior Gabby Schneider led Lehigh's offense with five points, all assists to tie a career high, while sophomore goalkeeper Hayley Hunt finished with 13 saves.
Â
Schneider's five assists came against preseason Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and Tewaaraton Award Watch List honoree Katie Detwiler, who was marking her. Perhaps most impressively, Schneider had as many assists (5) as Loyola had allowed all season in six games coming in. The Greyhounds had allowed 50 goals entering the day, only five of which were assisted. In the process, Schneider also moved from tied for seventh to tied for third in program history for career assists (currently 66).
Â
Junior Katia Carnevale was the recipient of two of those helpers, scoring twice on the day. Classmate Emma Eberhardt scored two goals as well, as did Casey O'Connor – marking the first two career goals for the first year.
Â
Defensively, first year Lauren Warfield had a big day with a career-high five groundballs and a caused turnover. Junior Cassie Marte recorded two draw controls, two groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Â
The third quarter featured goals from Eberhardt and O'Connor, the second of which pulled Lehigh within 13-5.
Â
After Loyola took a 14-5 lead early in the fourth, Carnevale and Eberhardt scored twice in 50 seconds to pull within 14-7, on the way to the 15-7 final.

Â
The Mountain Hawks will return home on Tuesday, Mar. 22 for a nonleague contest vs. UC Davis. Gametime is set for 4 p.m.

After the tough start, senior Nora Giordano got Lehigh on the board, from Schneider, early in the second. The second quarter also featured goals from O'Connor at the 7:51 mark, and a highlight-reel, no-look shovel shot from Carnevale with 44 seconds remaining in the half. That pulled Lehigh within 11-3 at the break.Highlights from a 15-7 loss to #7 Loyola - back at home Tuesday vs UC Davis 👊 #LGH pic.twitter.com/1yNLmwfP2G
