BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Breaking the single-game program and Patriot League record for 3-pointers with 17, the Lehigh women's basketball team could not be stopped, beating Loyola (Md.) 73-49 Saturday afternoon on Play4Kay at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks (18-7, 10-4 PL) improve to 13-2 at home this season earn their 10th Patriot League victory of the season, clinching a bye into the Patriot League Quarterfinal round for the fourth straight season. The win allows Lehigh to sweep the regular season series against Loyola, winning their sixth straight game against the Greyhounds.

Four Mountain Hawks scored in double-figures with sophomore guard Mackenzie Kramer leading the way once again with 23 points on a career-high tying seven 3-pointers (three of which were in the first two minutes of the first quarter), adding three assists and two steals. Senior forward Emma Grothaus put together another strong performance, scoring 13 points, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor (5-of-9) with a team-high seven rebounds. First-year guard Ella Stemmer scored 11 points with eight in the last six minutes of the game, making the final two 3-pointers to tie and beat the 3-point record, while first-year forward Meghan O'Brien contributed 10 points with four rebounds, two assists and a block. Senior point guard Clair Steele continued her job as the primary ball distributor with eight assists.

"Kenzie set the tone for set the tone for us right from the get-go today," said head coach Sue Troyan. "She was 3-for-3 within the first two minutes of the game and set the tempo for how we wanted to play and how we wanted to hunt 3's. I'm really proud of the team honestly, if you look at our 25 field goals and 23 of them were on assists, we talk a lot about sharing the basketball with our program.

"Our team did a great job of that today and identifying shooters on the perimeter. The 17 3-pointers were the result of a team that played really unselfishly today, shared the ball, looked for each and knocked them down when they were open. Kenzie was certainly the catalyst to all of that when she knocked down her first three shots." Kramer started the scoring for the Mountain Hawks with three 3-pointers in a row in the first two minutes of the game. O'Brien added two layups to give Lehigh a 13-7 lead going into the first media timeout. A mini 7-3 run by the Greyhounds tied the score at 16-16, but a driving layup by junior Frannie Hottinger re-took the lead for the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh took a 19-16 lead into the second quarter.

Lehigh's offense stayed hot with a 3-pointer by both Grothaus and Hottinger in the second quarter. The Mountain Hawks bridged a 12-0 run between the quarters and led 28-16 with 7:11 left in the first half.

Kramer drained two more 3-pointers to extend Lehigh's lead to 34-19 with 5:00 to play and the Mountain Hawks ended up out-scoring the Greyhounds 21-7 in the second quarter, shooting 75 percent from the 3-point arc (6-of-8). The Mountain Hawks took a 40-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.

A strong opening to the third stanza, a Grothaus layup started the scoring for the Mountain Hawks in the second half. Stemmer drained a 3-pointer and extended Lehigh's lead 50-33 with 6:03 left in the third quarter, first-year guard Kaylee Van Eps connected on a 3-pointer to give Lehigh a 56-37 lead with 2:46 on the clock. A strong defensive front kept the Greyhounds scoreless for the final four minutes of the third quarter.

Lehigh went on a 10-2 run to kick off the fourth quarter courtesy of a Grothaus 3-pointer and layup. Stemmer made the 16th 3-pointer of the game for the Mountain Hawks, tying the program and the Patriot League record with 5:27 to go, while Lehigh maintained a 68-45 lead going into the last media timeout. Stemmer drained her third 3-pointer of the game and Lehigh's 17th 3-pointer, breaking both program and Patriot League records. Two free throws by Stemmer to close out the game sealed a 73-49 win for Lehigh.

The Mountain Hawks led for nearly the entire contest, with the Greyhounds holding a one-point lead for only 30 seconds in the first quarter.

For the game, Lehigh shot 47.2 percent from the field (25-of-53) and 51.5 percent from beyond-the-arc (17-of-33). Loyola was held to 34.4 percent shooting from the field (21-of-61) and 30 percent from 3-point range (3-of-10). Loyola barely edged Lehigh in rebounds, 35-32.

Loyola was led by first-year Lex Therien with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Devyne Newman added 15 points on seven field goals and Taleah Dixon finished with a team-high four assists.

The Mountain Hawks travel to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, facing the Eagles at Bender Arena at 3 p.m., the first of two games in back-to-back days, taking on AU Wednesday as well with tip-off set for 7 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+ (subscription required).

"It's a big week for us," Troyan said. "We have four games in an eight day stretch. We're a little injured, so we purposely held Megan Walker out today, with the hopes that we can get her back for Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be a short prep honestly, with tomorrow off. We'll come back on Monday and focus on what we have to do down at American. They're the only team we haven't played yet this season, so it'll be strange to play them back-to-back, but also fortuitous to get to play down there two days in a row and get comfortable with what we're doing.

"Obviously we have a lot to play for in these last four games in the regular season. We challenged our kids coming into today's game that with four games to go, they need to take advantage of the task at hand."

Lehigh Women's Basketball held Loyola (Md.) to under 40 percent shooting. Fans in attendance received a free appetizer with the purchase of two entrees courtesy of The Brick in Bethlehem.
