Foley's bronze in 50 free helps Mountain Hawks gain ground after Day 2 of PLC

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Fifth-year senior Ann Foley earned a bronze medal and third place finish in the women's 50-yard freestyle final on Thursday evening at Lejeune Hall on Day 2 of the Patriot League Championships hosted by the United States Naval Academy. The women are currently slotted sixth at 94 points following the second day of competition.
 
Foley, the 2019 champion in the 50-yard freestyle, swam a 22.87 to pick up third place and the bronze medal, earning the Mountain Hawks a crucial 16 points towards the team score. Foley was just .07 seconds shy of the school record held by Payton Miles from 2017.
 
The night opened with an impressive performance in the 500-freestyle with first year Natalie Martin swimming to a fifth-place finish (4:55.68) in her first-ever individual A-final. Her finish got Lehigh 14 points towards the team score.
 
In the B-Final, first years Willa Werwaiss (4:57.21) and Maggie Mikalic (4:57.63) both had strong swims to rack up points, finishing second and third, respectively.
 
The night ended with an eighth-place showing in the 400-medley relay final as the relay team of Hallie Wilson, Danielle Prekop, Sarah Hardy and Ann Foley swam a 3:49.12 and tallied 22 points.
 
Lehigh is currently in sixth place at 94 points, just three points behind American for fifth (97). The Mountain Hawks are five points ahead of Loyola (Md.) in seventh (89) and eight ahead of Colgate for eighth (86).
 
Day 3 of the Patriot League Championships continue on Friday with six events including the 100 butterfly (Jordan MacDonald and Julia Stevens), 400 IM (Danielle Prekop, Sarah Hardy, Sarah Horne and Hannah Lord), 200 Free (Noel Fresa, Ann Foley, Maggie Mikalic and Sarah Manthorp), 100 Breast (Kelsey Thompson), 100 Back (Willa Werwaiss, Hallie Wilson and Noel Fresa) and 200 free relay.
 
Both the Friday prelims and finals will be streamed live on ESPN+ (subscription required) beginning at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
