Mountain Hawks suffer first loss of the season on Sunday to Villanova

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team (2-1) suffered its first defeat of the season on Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-1 to the Villanova Wildcats. Competing outside on the Ulrich Courts, the Mountain Hawks struggled to get past their opponents.
Starting in doubles, the Brown and White fell in three closely contested matches. Lehigh lost the No. 1 (Paula Gonzalez/Leighanna Moskos) and No. 2 (Ella Imhof/Casey Zhong) spots by a 6-4 score. At the No. 3 spot, Junmoke James and Anshika Singh fell to their opponents by a 6-3 score.
In singles, Villanova managed to take five wins throughout the afternoon. Freshman Rachel Buchinsky picked up the lone win for the Mountain Hawks at the No. 5 spot. The first-year collegiate player battled to a back-and-forth win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. At the No. 3 spot, the sophomore James dropped her match in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Competing at the No. 4 spot, the senior Zhong went toe-to-toe against her opponent but ultimately dropped the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Then at the No. 6 spot, the junior Singh almost rallied for a set win but couldn't muster enough points and dropped her match by a score of 6-4, 7-5.
Up next, Lehigh will return to Patriot League play and travel up north to Colgate for a showdown next Saturday. The Mountain Hawks will look to improve to 2-0 through the league schedule.
