
Women's Tennis shuts out Loyola to improve to 2-0

BALTIMORE, Md. – For the second straight season, the Lehigh women's tennis team is out to a 2-0 start! The Mountain Hawks rolled into Baltimore this afternoon and blanked the Greyhounds of Loyola (Md.). Lehigh opened with a 6-1 win last weekend against Fairfield.
The Brown and White won all eight of the matches that were played on the afternoon. The lone match that did not take place was No. 6 singles, as Loyola didn't have a player for the match.
Let's start with the singles play for the Mountain Hawks, as the best part of it was that all five winners won in straight sets against their opponents. The most lopsided result came at the No. 5 spot, where freshman Rachel Buchinsky dominated her opponent in impressive fashion, 6-1, 6-1.
At the No. 1 spot, Paula Gonzalez defeated Kateri Martin, 6-4, 7-6, while sophomore Ella Imhof won against Abigail Thornton, 6-3, 6-1. Competing at the No. 3 spot, Junmoke James grooved to a strong finish by defeating Julia Thompson, 6-1, 6-2. Making her first appearance of the season, captain Casey Zhong defeated Taylor Kuncl, 6-2, 7-6.
In doubles, the Mountain Hawks obtained the point by winning all three doubles matches. Gonzalez and Leighanna Moskos took win the win at the No. 1 spot, 7-6. At the No. 2 spot. Zhong and Imhof won 6-3, while the freshmen pair of sisters, Anushka and Megha Dania, won 6-2.
Up next, the 2-0 Mountain Hawks will host the Villanova Wildcats next Sunday, March. 21.
