BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Coming off a tough defeat to Coppin State Wednesday afternoon at Walker Field, Lehigh gets back to work this weekend at North Carolina A&T, with a three-game series starting Friday at 4 p.m. in Greensboro. Lehigh will take on the Aggies Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Mountain Hawks had a solid go against the Eagles on Wednesday, fighting back to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring four unanswered runs before Coppin State put two on the scoreboard in the eighth to come out with the victory.

Sophomore Gerard Sweeney went 3-for-5 with a double to pace the Lehigh offense, while senior Tony Gallo recorded his 100th career hit on an RBI double. Five other players recorded a hit including sophomore Casey Rother, who had a two-RBI triple to put Lehigh out in front. Rother started the day on the mound for the Mountain Hawks, throwing three innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Freshman Ryan Deom and junior Cameron Van Hoorebeke each made appearances on the mound in relief with the latter being charged with his second loss of the season. Freshman Will Grisack made an impression, going 1.2 innings without allowing a hit or a run with three strikeouts over six batters.

The stat of the day is going to be Lehigh leaving 10 runners on base, including the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, having an opportunity to walk off the home opener with a couple of major chances.

Gallo continues to pace the way with a .317 batting average (13-for-41) with four doubles, six runs scored and three RBIs. He's also walked seven times so far this season with an OBP of .429.

On the mound this weekend, sophomores Mason Black and Luke Rettig will both be back in action after both are coming off back-to-back nine strikeout outings. Rettig leads the team with 16.0 innings pitched and 23 strikeouts, while Black has the lower starters' ERA with a mark of 4.80 with 20 strikeouts in 15 innings.

North Carolina A&T is 6-6 to start 2020 and had an interesting win its last game, taking down Elon, 9-8 after the Phoenix walked two batters in a row with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Aggies got two hits apiece from four batters, Connor Knapp, Camden Williamson, Justin Williams and Ryne Stanley.

Knapp leads the team with a .421 batting average, going 8-of-19 from the plate with five RBIs. Williamson is hitting .348 thus far, going 16-of-46 with two homers and six RBIs. Alex Bibb finishes out the .300+ hitters with a mark of .342 with three doubles and three RBIs.

The Aggies are led on the mound by Ethan Chavis, who is 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA in three starts so far with 19 strikeouts, six walks and only three earned runs in 17.2 innings of work. Michael Johnson has a 1.42 ERA in three starts, going 1-2 with 15 strikeouts.

The Mountain Hawks are 1-3 all-time against North Carolina A&T with the Aggies taking two out of three from Lehigh near the beginning of the 2018 season.
