BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming into the Lehigh-Lafayette, head coach Matt Utesch praised his team and their commitment to bettering themselves as athletes. As the coaching staff ramped up practices this week, it definitely showed. The Mountain Hawks took first in 15 of the 17 events that took place inside Rauch Fieldhouse, lifting Lehigh past Lafayette, 115-66.

The coaching staff can't count on two hands all of the bright spots that happened Saturday afternoon. However, that's a good problem to have for the staff.

Right from the get-go, Lehigh took an early lead in the points and never looked back. At the halfway mark, the Mountain Hawks had the edge over the Leopards, 57-31. At the three-quarter mark of the event, Lehigh was up 78-43 over Lafayette.

Let's get to it! Starting in the mile run, Nicole Abbondandelo finished first with a time of 5:11.30, while Alexis Smith then took first in the 400m. Brett DeWeese put on a spectacle for the rowdy fans, and the junior sent a message to the Patriot League, winning two events (60mH and long jump) and coming in second in the 60m.

In the 500m, Brooke Schaeffer continued her stellar season with a win in the 500m at 1:17.62. In distance running, the Mountain Hawks took it to the Leopards. Mary Casey won the 800m with a time of 2:18.35, while Jade Sessions followed suit win a win of her own in the 1000m at 2:55.85. Then in the 4x400 relay, Aisha Kumar, Kaja Skerlj, Erin Racano and Camari Griffin glided past the Lafayette team at 4:06.64.

Rounding out the track events, Morgan McConnell shined in the 200m with a time of 26.27.

Onto the field events, the one-two punch of Brittany Curtin and Teasha McKoy proved to be no match for Lafayette. Curtin took first in the weight throw at 17.71m (58'1.25") and then second in the shot put at 12.75m. Staying in the shot put, McKoy was all smiles after her first-place finish at 13.13m (43'1").

In the high jump, Patriot League favorite Jordan Otto picked up another first-place finish at 1.60m, while Rachel Sequeira took first as well in the triple jump at 11.19. Finally, Coughlin grad Madisyn Hawkins took first in the pole vault at 3.50m.

Not only did Lehigh win 15 of 17 events, they also took second in a handful of events as well to extend its lead. Erin Racano in the 500m (1:21.42), Elyse Barkstrom in the 800m (2:18.88), Kara Bonner in the 1000m (3:01.29), Caity Reverand in the pole vault (3.35m), Bree Smentkowski in the long jump (5.46m) and Cate Shippee in the triple jump (11.17m).
